Switzerland County got big offensive games from Aleiah Thomas and Maddie Duvall last Thursday night against Southwestern, but a big fourth quarter by the Lady Rebels sent the Pacer faithful home on the short end of a 48-44 score.
Leading by a score of 34-28 after three quarters, Switzerland County only managed 10 points over the final eight minutes while the Lady Rebels exploded for 20 points to claim the four point win.
The first quarter was closely played, with the Lady Pacers claiming a 9-8 advantage. Maddie Duvall was hot early, connecting on two three-pointers; while Thomas also had a three-pointer to account for the Switzerland County points.
Bella Marcum led Southwestern in the opening quarter with six points.
Switzerland County began to take control in the second quarter, outscoring the Lady Rebels by a 13-9 count to take a 22-17 lead at the half.
Thomas took over again in the second, scoring five points on two field goals and a freethrow; while Jessie Duvall also had five points on a field goal and a three-pointer. Maddie Duvall capped the period scoring with her third three-pointer of the half.
Marcum continued to lead the Lady Rebels, again scoring five points.
Coming out of the halftime break, both teams played an even third stanza, with Switzerland County scoring 12 points in the quarter while their guests managed 11.
Maddie Duvall kept up her hot shooting, hitting a field goal and her fourth three-pointer of the game for five points; while Jessie Duvall had another three-pointer and Thomas and Rylee Hankins each added a basket.
The steady Marcum again had five points in the third, and the teams went to the final eight minutes with Switzerland County holding a 34-28 advantage.
But things fell apart offensively for the Lady Pacers in the final stanza, while the Southwestern offense ramped up to nearly match its output from the first three periods.
Thomas led the way for the Lady Pacers in the fourth with two baskets and four freethrows for eight points; and Maddie Duvall added the other two.
Southwestern’s Abby Ralston finally got her offense rolling in the fourth, scoring a three-pointer, two field goals and she made five freethrows to account for 12 points alone in the final stretch. Ashton Goode had four points; while Marcum and Kylie Eccles each added two more — and the Lady Rebels battled all the way back from an eight point deficit to a four point victory, 48-44.
Thomas led the Lady Pacers in scoring with 18 points; while Maddie Duvall was in double figures with 16. Jessie Duvall had eight points; and Hankins added two.
Marcum led Southwestern with 18 points; and Ralston had 14.
In the junior varsity game, Switzerland County defeated Southwestern 32-24.
Leading the way for the Lady Pacers was Rochelle Bolton, who had 10 points; while Hannah Hayes added seven and Keirstan Oeffinger and Josie Meyer had six points each. Jaden Harrell had two points; and Jayden Thomas contributed one point.
