Drug Free poster winners
In October of last year, the Switzerland County Probation Department was invited to participate in Red Ribbon Week at the Switzerland County Elementary and Middle Schools. Chief Probation Officer, Jeff Theetge and Juvenile Probation Officer Natalie Williams prepared an interactive presentation for the students in grades 3-8. The content was about various drugs and their effects, peer, family, and media influences, and legal consequences. The students again provided an impressive response to the presentation, as they were inquisitive about the various topics, and were eager to learn how to protect themselves from the negative impact of drug use. Following the presentation, the fourth grade classes at Jefferson-Craig Elementary and Switzerland County Elementary were presented with the opportunity to participate in a poster contest based on the information presented and theme, “Life is your journey: Travel Drug Free.” The Drug Free Switzerland County Coalition provided Walmart gift cards for the contest winners, as part of the Drug Free SC Community Initiative. The students of Jefferson-Craig Elementary School elected to participate in the contest, with the winners as follows: First Place: Paige Earls and Mallory Bear; Second Place: Carter Hinman and Alexia Haynes; Third Place: Myles Wilson and Eva Hicks. The posters will be displayed at the Switzerland County Courthouse, Switzerland County Sheriff’s Department, and winner’s respective schools until this October.
