Short handed Lady Pacers fall in Sectional opener

It was an incredibly disappointing to an outstanding season, as the Switzerland County Lady Pacer girls varsity soccer team fell to Oldenburg Academy by a score of 5-0 in Sectional action last week at Rising Sun.

The Lady Pacers entered tournament play with high hopes for a title; but Coach Courtney Dayadharum’s team suffered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic — as four starters were out of action due to being in quarantine.

The absences meant that Switzerland County had to play with just nine players — two under the normal number of players — while Oldenburg decided to continue to play with a full roster of 11 players.

Lady Pacer goalie Jordan Scott had an outstanding night, recording 13 saves; while the short-handed Switzerland County offense managed five shots on goal off of two corner kicks.

Through their efforts, Switzerland County’s Raylinn Kappes, Mackenzie Taylor, and Scott all earned spots on the All Sectional team.

  Other players honored included:

  • Oldenburg Academy: Abby Haverkos,  Jayln Stenger, Evelyn Storms, Sadie Wachsmann, Emma Weberding and Mimi Wilder .

  • Milan: Riley Clark, Ava Honnert, Alyssa Phelps, Audrey Schmidt, Maggie Schmidt.

  • South Ripley: Mariah Brison, Lena Conradi, Olivia Kavanaugh.

  • Rising Sun: Maddy Bovard, Kieran Groover.
