Six year old Carlee Boggs met the Brady Bunch stars at King’s Island. The six year old competed in a Facebook competition where she sang the show’s song and was chosen to meet the stars.
Ashley Chase and Chris Kitts have announced their engagement and approaching marriage.
Liz Phipps has earned a Ph.D. in Medical and Molecular Genetics from the Indiana University School of Medicine. She is the daughter of Jim and Shannon Phipps.
Braden Burk is Sectional Champion in the 800-meter run.
Kelsi Konkle pitched the Lady Pacers to a Sectional win against Southwestern.
Switzerland County Middle School student Summer Dickerson earned recognition as a ‘Top Ten Finalist’ in two events at the BPA National event in Florida.

A total of 104 members of the Switzerland County High School Class of 2003 will participate in commencement exercises this Sunday afternoon in the high school gymnasium. The graduation will begin at 2:30 p.m. Angie Thieman is the valedictorian and Sarah Allen is salutatorian.
Carrie Lynn Keller graduated from Anderson University in Anderson, Indiana, on Saturday, May 10th. She earned a degree in elementary education. She is the daughter of Ronnie an Debbie Keller of Moorefield and is a graduate of Switzerland County High School.
The 111th annual meeting of the Patriot High School Alumni Association was held at 6 p.m. on the evening of May 24th at the Switzerland County Elementary School near East Enterprise. The invocation was given by Reverend Steve Ward of Concord Community Church.

Brooke Stoops, a student in Rhonda Pennington’s third grade class at Switzerland County Elementary School, was the winner of the recent class essay contest. The subject was a field trip of Switzerland County businesses, which included Plastic Moldings Corporation, People’s Trust Company, Edelweiss Floral and the Ogle Haus Inn.
Navy Airman Recruit Michael D. Evans, a 1992 graduate of Switzerland County High School, recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, homeported in San Diego, California. He is the son of Glenn and Jane Smith, near Pleasant.
The work of the local school system was completed for 95 county residents on Sunday afternoon as diplomas were handed out to Switzerland County High School’s graduating class of 1993.

Vevay Postmaster Eddie Ball announced his retirement from the postal profession, calling it quits after 33 years of distinguished service. Ball, now 62, said he would officially step down as postmaster at the Vevay Post Office June 3rd. He had been the postmaster her for the past eight and one-half years.
The Town of Patriot celebrate Memorial Day this past weekend with a parade Saturday morning and two full days of fun in the sun (or rain as was the case Saturday). There was entertainment, numerous contests, baseball games, horseshoe pitching and other games.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Moorhead of East Enterprise announced the wedding date for their daughter, Janet, to James David Waltz, June 10th in St. Williams Catholic Church in Cincinnati. James is the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Waltz of Vevay.
Edyth Adams, formerly of the Bennington community, will observe her 89th birthday this Saturday, June 4th, at the Swiss Villa Health Care Center, Vevay, where she now resides. Mrs. Adams was the Hopewell correspondent for Vevay Newspapers for many years.

Gary Rowlett’s friends may have thought it was just another fish story when he told them a couple of weeks ago that while angling in a small farm pond he hooked a fish so big it broke his pole in two. And of course that big fish got away. But Friday night Rowlett returned with a stronger pole for that same farm pond (he’s keeping its location to himself) — and this time he landed the beast, a monstrous 10-pound catfish. He and his wife Margaret Ann and five-year-old daughter Sherry Lynn posed for our photographer with Gary’s prize catch. The big cat later made a final feast for Charles and Gretchen Knox and other friends of the Rowletts, who live on Parks Ridge.
Nancy Jane Mayo of Patriot and Nancy Susan Williamson of Vevay were among 3,482 students receiving degrees at Purdue University commencement exercises May 9th.
Clarence N. Miller, 83, of route 3, Vevay, at Braytown, passed away Saturday at Mayfield Nursing Home in Madison following an extended illness.
Randall Morrison Wiley, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Wiley of route 2, Vevay, was graduated with a bachelor of science degree Saturday from Huntington College, Huntington, Indiana.
Luther W. Giltner, Jr., was recently granted his real estate broker’s license and is associated with the firm of Hollinden Realty in Tell City, Indiana. Giltner is the son of Luther Giltner, Sr., of Versailles, principal of Allensville School.
Mrs. Bertha Robinson, 82, of 208 East Main Street, Vevay, passed away May 23rd at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison following a one-year illness.

Wilk H. Works, 75, of Vevay, retired printer and curator of Switzerland County Historical Museum, died Saturday night in King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.
John E. Nichols, 32, of Muncie, will be the new Patriot Trojan coach to replace Ronald Osburn who resigned after one year at the Patriot helm. Patriot lost 18 straight games in 1962-63. Norman Gray, presently in the Jefferson County school system, was named acting principal at Pleasant. He will succeed Ernie Lock who was recently placed in a teaching position at Vevay Elementary School.
Mrs. Nellie F. Krall, 84, died Saturday morning at her farm home near Mount Sterling following a month’s illness from a heart condition.
Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Walcott announce the engagement and approaching marriage of their daughter, Evelyn, to Kenneth Dick, son of Mr. and Mrs. Doyle Dick. All reside at Patriot.
Gordon R. Brown has been spending the last three weeks with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl C. Brown, upon completion of his studies at United Electronics Laboratories at Louisville, Kentucky. He left Tuesday to assume his new duties as electronic tester at McDonnell Aircraft in St. Louis, Missouri.

Reverend Otis Old, new pastor of the Switzerland Baptist Church, and his family were welcomed to the community Tuesday night in a reception given at the church by members and friends.
Miss Mary Ella Waldo, 79, passed away Thursday afternoon, May 21st, in the Madison hospital after a brief illness from a kidney infection.
Johnny Roeder of Franklin visited his grandmother, Mrs. Lou Haskell, Saturday. Mr. Roeder will graduate next week from Franklin College and was awarded his letter and sweater in athletics. He was a member of the Franklin College basketball team.
The new Switzerland County Highway garage for the storing and maintenance of highway equipment, which has been under construction near the County Infirmary, was completed last week. The former garage on Pike Street will be restored by Switzerland County Historical Society for use as a museum.
James Brummett of Vevay, route 3, sustained a painful injury to his right leg when he was kicked by a horse last week. No bones were broken but he has experienced great difficulty in walking since the accident.

Official word was received by the postmaster Monday that the Vevay Post Office would be advanced to a second class unit on July 1st of this year.
Captain John L. Graham, prominent river man and ferryboat owner of Vevay, died at his home here Sunday, having been in ill health for several years.
Miss Juanita Day of Vevay and Carroll Detmer of Posey Township were married at the Switzerland Baptist Church Wednesday evening by the Reverend Harvey Burns, pastor of the church.
Miss Geneva Briggs and Kyle Kern were married May 15th in Uniontown by Reverend Walter Moseley.
Born, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Tom Emery of Egypt Bottom.
Miss Lucy Baker and Wilbur Hubbard of Bear Branch were married in Vevay Saturday.

Dr. George Ellerbrook of Dillsboro, Indiana, who has been serving as staff doctor at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, spent Saturday in Vevay where he contemplates opening an office.
Mr. and Mrs. L. L. Welch celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary at their home near Bennington Sunday.
Cosby Brucks and Miss Anna Otter, both of Lost Fork, were married in Madison Saturday.
Miss Miriam Hart and Reverend Earl Ponmerehn, both of the Moorefield community, were married Sunday evening at the Ebenezer M.E. church by Reverend A.W. Jarboe. Mrs. Louella Dibble, 39, wife of Powell Dibble, Rising Sun, passed away Tuesday in Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati.
Dr. Mary M. VanNuys of Lebanon, Indiana, died May 26th, following a prolonged illness. She was born in the Pleasant community but the greater part of her life was spent in Lebanon.

Mrs. Lettie Buchanan, aged 54 years, of near Bennington, died Wednesday night at her home after an illness of some three years.
Mrs. Lann Clendenning was found dead in bed at her home in Markland Sunday morning by her husband. Death was attributed to a heart attack.
Mrs. J.W. Neal, nee Susie Bear, and a native of this county, died recently at her home in California, of influenza.
Born, a son to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Uhlmansiek of Posey Township.
John Walston and Miss Edith Ryle of Posey Township were married Saturday.
Alva Smith and Selva Sebastian of Jonesville, Kentucky were married Thursday by Reverend Stewart at his study at the Christian Church.

One day last week Rodney Danner sold a fine four-year-old saddle horse for the high price of $250.
John U. Lyons, who formerly resided near Florence, died last Friday at his home in Colfax, Illinois.
Joseph Breck and son, Bernard, and John Ash of Santa Fe Bottom left for the northern part of the state where they are engaged in running yachts on the lake during the summer.
Workmen have been overhauling the time lock on the Patriot Deposit Bank which was slightly damaged by the flood.

The funeral of George Corban who was killed by a vicious horse was held at Mt. Carmel last Sunday.

On May 20th the residence of John Powell in Posey Township was destroyed by fire the loss being about $1,000. His daughter, three years old, and another child were playing with matches in a room on the second floor and accidentally set fire to some articles.
Last Saturday night a barn belonging to Benjamin Wiley near Allensville was destroyed by fire. David Weave, who lived on the farm, had four horses and a lot of farming implements destroyed.
Last Saturday James Oak of East Enterprise suffered a dislocated elbow when he was thrown from a horse.
Two horses attached to a spring wagon belonging to E. Hufford ran away below Vevay last Tuesday.

Civil War news: Dispatches from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, state that General Grant has captured Jackson, Mississippi, and is moving toward Vicksburg. The capitol of Jackson was burned.
The casualties in the 3rd Indiana Cavalry during Stoneman’s recent operation were: Killed 1, wounded 2, captured, 8. John O. Martin of Pleasant Township was killed by a ball while fording the river.
The 21st Infantry, now at New Orleans, has been in service two months and 800 of the original men remain while less than 20 are in the hospital, 60 have been killed in action and 40 have died of disease.
On last Saturday night the shop of Henry A. Tinker at Enterprise was broken into and about 25 guns belonging to the Home Guard were stolen. On Sunday 10 or 12 Knights of the Golden Circle were at the bottom of this affair. They have been under guard day and night by two or three companies of the Guard. None of the guns have been recovered.
The new Universalist church in Vevay will be dedicated on Sunday, May 31st, at 10:30 a.m. Reverend B.F. Foster of Indianapolis will deliver the sermon.

Captain Watts of Madison has purchased Captain McClain’s half interest in the fine steamer Bostona. She will be put in the Cincinnati-Madison trade. Admiral David Gibson still remains his interest in the Bostona. Captain Watts commanded the John Drenno in the Madison trade in
