A word that has so many meanings to so many people — HOME.

What does home mean to you? Well to me it means the feeling of love and comfort. The place where you are welcomed with open arms, a place to lay your head when tired or sad. The place we go to celebrate all of life’s many happiness and achievements.

I have lived in a number of different buildings, but here in Patriot I feel like I am home.

We also use home to describe other words like home cooking — that’s one of my favorites, I love going out to eat, but there is nothing like a home cooked meal surrounded by family and friends. A table full of people just enjoying life. Home can also proceed homecoming which is a time honored tradition — from football games to churches.

This coming Sunday, October 17th, Patriot Baptist church will be holding its homecoming service at 11 a.m. ‘Welcome home’ is the theme of the day, it’s such a nice feeling to know that you are welcomed to a place with such history and feelings of love and family. After service there is luncheon at town hall for fun and fellowship.

Sometimes the feeling of home also takes us back to the time of innocence when we were children and life seemed simpler. The holidays were less chaotic, and more inspiring. To be young again….

In a little over two weeks the feeling of being a child will be upon us. On October 31st the town of Patriot will be celebrating Halloween. Trick or Treat is happening from 6-8 p.m. Bring your little ones out for everyone to see what their dreams are. There is a costume judging contest at 5:45 p.m. at the parking lot at the 4 way stop in the middle of town. If you don’t want to hand candy out at home this parking lot will be set up for a trunk or treat as well. The Patriot/Posey fire department will be set up down there and the fire station will be open. The fire department will be selling hot dogs, I’ll have a price for those in the upcoming weeks.

Let’s all remember what it was like to be a child, and getting all dressed up in our favorite costumes, and walking around showing everyone how excited we are. As adults  we sometimes forget the feeling of innocence and what it was like to be carefree. Let’s embrace all the happiness of Halloween, make it a great one for not only the children but Patriot as well.

The town board has asked me to pass along that the November meeting will be on Thursday November 4th instead of Tuesday November 2nd, due to election day. If you have any questions,  please contact town hall.

With harvest homecoming next week I hope everyone has a chance to remember what home means to them. Like I said before, to me it means love and comfort. A place to build a foundation and make memories.

Everyone have  a blessed week and I hope you all find a place to call home.
