Patriot News

One of my favorite parts of summer is sitting on my front porch enjoying beautiful days. It’s been a week since we as a community came together to celebrate the 4th, I think that’s what makes Patriot wonderful. As we come into the full swing of summer, I am always hearing lawnmowers up and down the road. People outside enjoying the weather, spending time at the park or down on the river.

After last year it is nice to see things becoming more and more normal…..

This past week the Patriot Baptist Church held its mini Vacation Bible School, while scrolling through Facebook I have witnessed all the fun they had, and the amount of children and teens there is blessing not only for the church but for all of us. I am grateful they were able to return to a summer tradition. I know for me growing up Vacation Bible School was always a highlight of our summer in Hebron.

Now through July 17th the fairgrounds in Vevay are in full swing, as the Switzerland County 4-H Fair week is taking place. Try to get out and support our local 4-H participants. These young men and women have worked hard over the last year and can use all the encouragement we can give them. Along with 4-H there are also open class entries for adults, the entries for this are as amazing as the 4-H. Times to view this are Thursday and Friday 5 p.m.  to 9 p.m. in the Commercial Building . While the open class exhibits  pick up information on Switzerland county homemakers, it is a wonderful organization and is always looking for new members. I enjoyed my time as a homemaker, and encouraged everyone to get involved.

The fair also helps all of us relive the times of yesteryear , so go see all the Patriot residents who are showing, participating or just out celebrating the summer.

As the fair is a big part of the summer it is also a reminder that the new school year is not far away. Parents in the area should start looking for information from the Switzerland County School Corporation to be posted in upcoming weeks. It may also be a good time to get ahead on back to school shopping, last minute runs are always going to happen, but getting a head start is always a good idea.

I don’t want to rush the summer, so while pre-planning try to get out and have fun times with your family, we still have beautiful summer days to enjoy. Last minute vacations, bonfires, or fishing trips along the river. There is no telling what kind  of memories can be made in the spur of the moment.

I received an email from Barrie Watters today, he is very happy to have been able to visit with so many friends and family. His visit included multiple generations of the Fisk family as well as many friends from Patriot Pals, and is hoping to see everyone in September. It’s nice to hear from past residents about the joys of living and visiting Patriot.

There are many birthdays coming up in the next few weeks, I hope everyone can find time to celebrate. Let’s say prayer for all those in need, and pain. Everyone gets out and enjoys the happiness of summertime.

“Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to the murmur of water, or watching  the clouds float across the sky, is hardly a waste of time” — John Lubbock
