On January 6th Concord Community Church rang in the New Year with a celebration to honor Steve and Sharon Ward. On January 6th, 1993 Steve preached his first sermon as the official pastor of the “little white church down the lane.”  His third decade brought 28 family members and friends to “Praise the Lord” for Steve’s faithful, inspired servant’s heart. Steve played the piano for the worship service hymns, with Albert Detmer leading the singing. The rest of the service he relaxed in his favorite front pew with his wife, Sharon. Moderator Bill Schreiner welcomed all and introduced guests who completed the service. Sharon Ward led the responsive reading prayer time, with teary eyes and a joyful heart. The honoree chose “I’ll Go Where You Want Me To Go” for our favorite hymn time. During Special moments, the congregation was blessed to hum along with Rick Patrick’s five gospel songs and Adam Rose’s piano solo of “The Lord’s Prayer.” The sermon, “Legacy” was given by Josh Rose. All present heard of Steve’s compassionate, selfless, and humorous legacy to his family, the church, and the community. Then, Josh had everyone remember Christ’s eternal legacy for humanity. Finally, everyone was challenged to answer, “What is your legacy as a church and as an individual?” The service closed with Bill calling Steve and Sharon to the front, middle pew and having all present hold hands and gather around them for the closing prayer by Bonnie Schreiner. Of course, the celebration continued into the fellowship room where all enjoyed a luncheon feast! In addition to the 35 members, guests present were: Josh, Tasha, Emily, David, Gabriel, and Ethan Rose; Adam, Ann, and Adalie Rose; Scott and Hannah Burke and two sons; Brigetta Hetzel; Pat Morris; Rick and Bobby Patrick; Maria Hardy; Jay and Wanda Benzing; George and Judy Cole; Larry and Itsy Jones; Keith and Linda Allhands; Cortney Coplen; and Emma.

The Sunday Lunch Bunch at Bryceno’s this week included Bruce and Jill Hutcherson, Carol Ann Armstrong, Kay Cook, Janice Meadors, Sandy Thacker, Jack Leonard, Janett Boling, Jean and Dennis Rose and Marsha Roeschlein.

Dollie Green, Billie Green, and Hazel Huffner had lunch Wednesday at Smokey Bones in Florence, Kentucky. They spent the afternoon shopping.
