It’s Friday mid-afternoon and sitting here enjoying our family from Pennsylvania talking about everything under the sun, which the outdoor world is not giving much of on this rainy Friday. It is nice to have a family visit and I am sure a lot of people in town are celebrating this weekend as Switzerland County High School is celebrating the class of 2021.

We are definitely in full summer mode — including yard sales at a variety of different homes in town on June 4th and 5th so come out and support your fellow town members, or set one up in your yard and purge yourself of unwanted items. If you can’t sell your stuff and would still like to get rid of things  spring clean up for Patriot  will be going on and the dumpsters will be available at the water barn located  at 11317 State Road 156 on Friday June 4th from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday June 5th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. These are for town of Patriot residents only and will be monitored by the Patriot Town Board.

With the Fourth of July just around the corner the Patriot town board is working on gathering people to help with the parade and festivities. If anyone has an interest in being in this year’s parade please contact Linda Fisk at Patriot Town Hall or by phone at (812) 594-2243. If you are stopping by town hall please remember to drop off your sewer surveys to help in acquiring a grant to help with the sewer project. The upcoming months are going to be full of activities in town, try to get out and support our local activities.

The youth Pacers baseball and softball teams have games coming up in Patriot June 4th, 7th and 9th at 6 p.m. at the ballpark in Patriot. I can sincerely say that the sounds of cheers coming from the park this past week made me feel happy to live in the wonderful town of Patriot. Along with the ball teams getting out and showing their stuff, Scout Troop #700 is heading out to explore the Big South Fork in Tennessee, they will be using the physical endurance, map and other skills they have been working on. The scouts are also hoping to get more people involved in the upcoming years, boys and girls ages 11 to 18 are welcome to join. Come join  the fun and join an organization that is helping to build a great future for our country.

I hope everyone had a safe and happy Memorial day weekend and are ready to start a wonderful summer. Please watch out for children and teens out and about as the school year has ended and they are all enjoying some much needed rest…. Best wishes to all the graduates from all the classes. We should as a community say a prayer for the teachers and staff as well that they are able to enjoy their summers and be rejuvenated for the new school year in the fall.

Let us all say a prayer for those who are traveling in the next few weeks, whether it be home from the holiday or out on vacation. Lets keep everyone safe this summer and always.
