The old saying is “April showers bring May flowers”, if that is the case then what does April snow showers bring….. I joked about how it seemed like a cosmic joke to have snow on April fools day, and I have seen Easter egg hunts in the snow in the past, but this week’s overnight snow was sure a surprise.
The change in the weather has seemed somewhat bleak, cold and dreary. I started thinking back to a year ago when not only did our town see change but the world started to stop. In the last year we have seen loss, grief, shortages of unusual things. In spite of all that we also witnessed neighbors helping neighbors, children learning to slow down, truthfully adults learning to slow down some. We weren’t able to do a lot of the normal springtime activities that we, myself included have taken for granted in years past, but hopefully we were able to reconnect with what is really important to us.
Hopefully the forecast for the following weeks will bring some sunshine and warmer days, letting us get out in our yards with family and friends. Before the weather turned colder I noticed the town workers starting to get fields mowed and park areas cleaned up. While out and about in town if you happen to see the town crew hard at work say “hi” they do a lot to give us a beautiful town and thank you goes a long way. We all need to do our part in keeping the parks clean, and beautiful. Along with our parks, our beautiful riverfront is also a place where lots of springtime activities take place including Indiana’s free fishing days and one is coming up next week. May 2, 2021 get out and do some fishing, enjoy the outdoors. Living in a river town we are blessed by the majesty of the great Ohio flowing past us, while enjoying this beautiful Sunday, I found out the American Duchess was coming past Patriot. The sight of riverboats takes us back to a simpler time, when everything was done on the river.
The end of April and start of May also bring good times for yard sales, if anyone would like to have theirs posted please let me know and I will help get the word out for you. Springtime is a good time to discard things from the winter months that are no longer useful now. With the weather changing constantly we also need to be careful about our furnaces and air conditioners, spring allergies may pose problems for some ,so you may want to change your filters before changing over for the season.
I hope everyone has had a wonderful week, and celebrated with loved ones. Let’s say a prayer for all those hurting or in pain. Hopefully in the next few weeks there will be an overload of May flowers from all the April showers….rain and snow
