Pacers rule over Shiners

The Rising Sun Shiners had their three game winning streak ended on Friday, Jan. 18th as the Switzerland County Pacers posted a 55-45 win in Vevay.

   The win by the Pacers avenged a loss to Rising Sun in the River Town Classic final while giving the Pacers its second win over the Shiners and control of the Ruler of the River trophy on homecoming night.

   Th Shiners shot 70 percent from the field (14-for-20 inside the arc) but that dropped to 47 percent after just 3-for-16 from behind the arc..

   Rising Sun scored first on a 3-pointer by Nick Koons but the Pacers took an 8-5 lead into the second quarter.

  River Town MVP Noah Pflum tied the game with a 3-pointer to tie the game 8-8. 

  Rising Sun trailed 22-17 at the half largely due to 10 of its 15 turnovers in the opening half.

  Senior Wes Rider gave the Shiners a spark  with an assist, steal and basket that led to a pair of Landon Cole goals to get within five.

   However, the Shiners had no answer for Switzerland County big man Tyler Konkle and guard Damian Breeck.

   Breeck put the Pacer lead at 20 with a 3-pointer and basket before Koons and Pflum scored to close the third quarter trailing 39-33.

   Konkle dominated inside play en route to a game high 24 point including 12-for-14 at the free throw line. Breeck added 23 with five 3-poointers. Other scorers included Landon Wilks four, Dalton Tingle two, and Coby Chase one.

   Koons led Rising Sun with 15. Cole and Pflum had seven each followed by Jake Bovard six, T.J. Manifold five, and Chris Bowne three.

    Manifold led RS with five rebounds. Bovard and Cole added four each. Rider came into action leading the ORVC with 7.3 rebounds but did not have a board.

 The difference came at the foul line where the Pacers were 16-for-20 and Shiner 8-for-10.

  The Shiners (5-7, 0-1) will travel to Shawe on Friday and return home to play Waldron on Saturday. It will be young cheerleader night.
