Pacer boys soccer opens year with three big victories
On Thursday, August 18th, the Switzerland County Pacers boys varsity soccer team traveled to Austin to open its season with a 16-0 drubbing of the Eagles.
The Pacers led 13-0 at the half; and scored another three goals in the second half. The game ended 20 minutes into the second half due to the Mercy Rule.
The Pacers out shot the Eagles 53-0. The Pacers also had more shots on goal — 37-0.
Scoring for the Pacers was as follows:
• Levi Curlin with one goal and one assist.
• Landon Duckworth with one goal and one assist.
• Nate Furnish with one goal and one assist.
• Aiden Griffith with one goal and one assist.
• Carson Griffith with one assist.
• Grant Hall with two goals.
• Ethan Hussong with two goals.
• Austin Johns with three goals and one assist.
• Ashton Purvis with one goal and one assist.
• Cooper Todd with four goals and four assists.
• Jacob Williams with one assist.
“We were pleased with the contributions of everyone,” Pacer head coach David Todd said. “Austin did not have a team last year and are in rebuild mode, but we did well throughout and were able to get everyone on the team at least 30 minutes of playing time which could help down the road.”

On Saturday, August 20th, the Pacers beat the Carroll County Panthers by a 5-0.
The Pacers led 4-0 at the half and scored another goal in the second half.
The Pacers out shot the Panthers 29-22. The Pacers also had more shots on goal at 16-11.

• Carson Griffith with one assist.
• Grant Hall with one goal.
• Mason Peelman with one assist.

“The Pacer defense has started the year with two straight shutouts,” Coach Todd said. “We’re getting very strong effort from them.”

This past Monday the #16 ranked Pacers beat the #12 ranked Jac-Cen-Del Eagles by a score of 3-1.
The Pacers led 1-0 at the half. Jac-Cen-Del tied it early in the second half, but the Pacers responded easily to go up again 2-1. Switzerland County scored again late to seal the deal with a 3-1 final score.
The Eagles out shot the Pacers 18-17. Jac-Cen-Del also had more shots on goal at 10-8.
