Oeffinger earns All tourney nod as Lady Pacers fall in RTC final
The journey that the Switzerland County Lady Pacers hoped would earn them a Rivertown Classic championship came to a halt on Friday night, as the Lady Pacers fell to Lawrenceburg in the title game by a score of 54-30.
After posting impressive offensive statistics in the semifinal game two nights earlier, the Lady Pacers couldn’t really mount any offense against the Lady Tigers.
Switzerland County managed to break double figures in just one of the four quarters — the third — and that spelled doom against a really good Lawrenceburg team.
In the first, the Lady Tigers doubled up on Switzerland County, outscoring the Lady Pacers by a 10-5 count.
Maddie Duvall had a three-pointer in the opening stanza, while Gracie White added the other points on a field goal.
If the first quarter was a struggle, the second stanza proved to be the decider, as Lawrenceburg outscored Switzerland County by a 19-4 margin to gain complete control, possessing a 29-9 lead at the half.
Switzerland County got buckets by Keirstan Oeffinger and White in the second.
Down big heading into the second half, Switzerland County did post its biggest threat in the third, scoring 17 points — more than half of their overall game total — while managing to hold Lawrenceburg to 13.
The third saw a big quarter from Oeffinger, as she accounted for seven points on two field goals and a three pointer; while Jessie Duvall found her range, hitting a field goal, a freethrow, and a three pointer for six points in the quarter.
Nora Hankins and White each contributed baskets in the third.
Even with the big run in the third, the Lady Pacers couldn’t maintain that momentum heading into the final stanza, and they were again outscored 12-4 over that eight minutes to make the final margin of victory 24 points — 54-30.
Oeffinger had another three pointer in the fourth; and Courtney Higgins made a freethrow to account for the points.
Oeffinger’s efforts in the tourney earned her Switzerland County’s only spot on the All Tournament team. She finished the championship game with 12 points overall.
Jessie Duvall had six points in the loss, while White also had six points off the bench in a solid outing. Maddie Duvall had three points; Hankins added two; and Higgins had one.
Kristin Cross led Lawrenceburg with 19 points; Kierah Lowe had 13 points; and Chloe Meyer was in double figures with 10.
