Joey Wainscott

  Joey Lee Wainscott, age 52, of Switzerland County, Indiana, passed away with his loving family by his side at 12:34 a.m. on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023, at the Swiss Villa Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Vevay.

  Joey entered this life on March 22nd, 1971 in Madison. He was raised in Fairview, and was the loving son of Jerry Lee Wainscott, whom preceded him in death and Pamela Sue (Bailey) Wainscott. Joey graduated in 1989 from Switzerland County High School where he played baseball.

  Joey was inducted into the United State Navy on May 6th, 1992 in Louisville, Kentucky. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and the Good Conduct Award. He served as an Oceans Systems Technician and was released from active duty and was transferred to the reserves and was honorably discharged on November 29th, 1996.

  Joey was employed as a slot technician for Belterra Casino & Resort in Florence, Indiana. On January 7th, 2007, Joey was employed by Indiana Gaming Commission and worked for Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg, Indiana and for Rising Star Casino in Rising Sun.

  In his early years of life, Joey coached little league ball at the Markland Dam for a few years. He attended 7 Hills Church in Florence, Kentucky, as well as, Switzerland Baptist Church in Vevay. Joey enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling, bowling, hiking and cooking.

  In his later years of life, Joey loved being healthy and became a body builder and loved working out with his friends. He enjoyed going to car shows and raising 4-H goats for several years. Joey loved taking pictures of God’s beautiful creations of sunrises and sunsets. Joey was a true warrior and fought a courageous battle with glioblastoma brain cancer since December of 2021.

  Joey will be missed by his daughters: Krislyn Beach and her husband Randall of Chloride, Arizona and Maizen Wainscott of Bennington; by his son Julian Hart of Deltona, Florida; by his mother Pamela Sue (Bailey) Wainscott of Fairview; by his sister Angela Swanson and her husband Darren of Bennington; by his brother Christopher Wainscott of Vevay; by his step-grandmother Carolyn S. (Grigsby) Wainscott of Cincinnati, Ohio; by his nieces and nephew: Alexandria Rickerson and her wife Shelby of Madison, Abigail Wainscott of Georgetown, Kentucky, Delanie Swanson of Vevay, Kamden Earls of Vevay, and Allyson Wainscott of Cold Springs, Kentucky; by his best friends Paul and Lisa Ray of Vevay, and by his numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

  He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Lee Wainscott, who passed away on May 22nd, 2001; by his maternal-grandparents: Paul Denver Bailey, Sr. and Anna Rozella (Emery) Bailey; by his paternal grandfather Lenvill J. Wainscott; by his paternal grandmother Phyllis Ann (Konkle) Coker; by his uncles: Bill Wainscott, Rick Wainscott, Larry Wainscott and Paul Bailey, Jr.; and by his aunts Vicki Bailey and Paula Carrico.

  Visitation was held on Saturday, September 16th, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana, 47043.

  Funeral services were conducted following the time of visitation on Saturday, September 16th, by Brother Joe Bentley, at the funeral home.

  Interment followed in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison. Full military rites were conducted by the Honor Guard of the Vevay American Legion Post #185 and the Vevay VFW Post #5396.

Benjamin ‘Benjie’ Davis, Jr.

  Benjamin Franklin “Benjie” Davis, Jr., age 59, of Vevay, passed away at 2:14 a.m. on Saturday, September 16th, 2023, at the Norton King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

  Benjie entered this life on March 19th, 1964 in Madison. He was raised in Madison, and was the son of Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Davis, Sr. and Nancy Lorraine (Moffitt) Sommer. Benjie attended Pope John Elementary School in Madison. He was a 1982 graduate of Southwestern High School and attended Ivy Tech Community College in Madison for a welding certification.

  Benjie was united in marriage on April 25th, 1992 to Gail Lee Hambrick at the Vevay Church of Christ in Vevay. This happy union of over 31 years was blessed with a daughter, Ashley.

  Benjie was employed as a welder for United Group Services in Cincinnati, Ohio for several years. He later managed and was the butcher for the Vevay City Meat Market for a few years. Benjie enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

  Benjie will be missed by his wife Gail Lee (Hambrick) Davis of Vevay; by his daughter Ashley Davis of Vevay; by his son, Chris Peelman of Vevay; by his grandchildren: Braiden, Keylan, Acelynn, Justice and Landon; by his father Benjamin Franklin “Ben” Davis Sr. and his wife Shirley of Madison; by his mother-in-law Mary Jane “Janey” (Furnish) Peelman of Vevay; by his sister Lorrie Duncan of Madison; Burton and her husband Greg of Greenwood, Indiana; Carolyn Rector of Madison, and Gloria Bookser and her husband Bart of Memphis, Indiana; by his brothers: John Davis of Madison and Doug Leach and his wife Deidra of Hanover, Indiana; and by his several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

  He was preceded in death by his mother Nancy Lorraine (Moffitt) Sommer, who died on November 21st, 2005; by his maternal grandparents, William Roy “Bill” and Helen Louise (Smith) Moffitt; by his paternal grandparents Charles L. “Buster” and Myrtle Elizabeth (Moore) Davis;  by his brother Scott Davis; by his sister Becky Davis; and by his brother-in-law David Duncan.

  Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22nd, at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay, Indiana, 47043.

  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, September 22nd, at the funeral home.

  Interment will follow in the Vevay Cemetery.
