Nora Hankins leads big win over Shawe Memorial, 52-10
Switzerland County hosted a varsity only contest last Thursday night against Shawe Memorial — and it wasn’t pretty from the outset.
The Lady Pacers got off to a quick start and never looked back as its defense stifled the Lady Hilltoppers, resulting in a 52-10 win.
Switzerland County imposed its will early, jumping out to an early 11-2 lead at the end of the first period.
Nora Hankins controlled the paint, scoring six points on three field goals; while Jayden Thomas hit a three-pointer and Maddie Duvall converted a field goal.
The second quarter wasn’t much better, as the Lady Pacers posted 16 points in the second stanza, while again holding Shawe Memorial to just two points.
Maddie Duvall led Switzerland County in the second, making a three-pointer and a field goal for five points; while Hankins turned in another strong quarter, finishing with four points. Jessie Duvall had a three-pointer; Keirstan Oeffinger made two freethrows; and Thomas had a field goal — and the teams went to the halftime break with Switzerland County on top, 27-4.
Even after a break — things didn’t get any better.
The third quarter saw the Lady Pacers outscore their guests by a 13-2 margin, leading to a 40-6 score after three periods of play.
In the third, Maddie Duvall got hot, connecting on a pair of three-pointers to go with a field goal and a freethrow for nine points; while Oeffinger provided the other offense with two field goals for four points.
The fourth quarter saw Coach Mark Boggs substitute liberally, as he had a full cast because of there not being a junior varsity game.
In the final eight minute stretch, Switzerland County posted 12 more points, while Shawe Memorial doubled its other period output, scoring four points.
The trio of Hankins, Hannah Hayes, and Kenzie Taylor accounted for all of the Lady Pacers’s fourth quarter points, with each contributing four points.
The final score was messy: Switzerland County 52, Shawe Memorial 10.
Maddie Duvall had 16 points, two rebounds, and a steal in the game; while Hankins was nearly unstoppable all night, finishing with 14 points, nine rebounds, and a pair of steals.
Oeffinger had six points, nine steals, three assists and a rebounds; Thomas had five points and four steals; Taylor had four points, two steals and a rebounds; Hayes had four points, four rebounds and a block; and Jessie Duvall added three points, five assists, five rebounds, and four steals.
