Middle School swim team sets records

The swim team from Switzerland County Middle School is diving into its season.

The team placed second in its first meet of the season on Tuesday night, a three-way meet featuring Scottsburg and South Ripley.

South Ripley was the overall winner, followed by Switzerland County and then Scottsburg.

Several Switzerland County swimmers were competing for the first time, including: Deanna Voris in the 200-yard freestyle; and Kaitlyn Lack and Josie Meyer in the 100-yard freestyle.

Nick Braun and Kelsie Kerkoff set their personal-best times in the 100-yard freestyle; while Cameron Papucci and Alex Edwards had their personal-best times in the 50-yard freestyle. Shae Lack had an outstanding effort, swimming in both relays.

There were also team records broken by Pacer swimmers during the event.

Ally Furnish broke the school record in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of :47.09; Nathan Braun bested his own 50-yard backstroke record with a time of :37.04; and Colton Penick broke the 200-yard freestyle record that has stood for five years with a time of 2:28.72.

The teams next meet is Tuesday, February 19th at Jennings County.
