The Rising Sun Lady Shiners lost 44-31 to the Switzerland County Lady Pacers in the consolation game of the 2019 River Town Classic hosted by South Dearborn High School on Friday, Jan. 4th.
Both teams lost their opening round match ups. Lawrenceburg defeated Rising Sun 66-30 before going on to win its third straight tourney title, 56-22, over South Dearborn.
South Dearborn was a 62-44 winner over the Lady Pacers in the tourney opener.
Switzerland County scored first and never trailed in defeating Rising Sun for the second time this season.
They led 13-6 after one quarter and 26-15 at the half. Coach Mark Boggs’ girls built a 40-23 lead after three quarters.
Rising Sun was led by senior Danyka Groover with 10 points and three rebounds. Sophomore Lindsay Montgomery had a slow start but finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Senior Sydney Bostic had a strong game with five points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals and just two turnovers. Maddi Wilson added four points, four boards and three steals with Sydney Pitts scoring three and Kinsey Price one.
The Shiners were 13-for-32 including 1-for-5 from three point range and 4-for-10 at the free throw line.
Rising Sun had 22 turnovers.
Switzerland County junior Aleiah Thomas scored a game-high 22 points. Maddie Duvall added eight, Jaden Harrell five, Rylee Hankins four, Josei Meyer three, and Lexi Lay two.
The Pacers had a 25-9 rebounding advantage and were 17-for-39 from the field including 7-for-14 at the foul line.
In its opener, Rising Sun scored first on a pair of free throws by all-tournament player Lindsay Montgomery but Lawrenceburg then took control. They led 14-6 after one quarter and broke the game wide open, 35-10 at the half with a 14-0 run before Saige Groover scored for the Shiners with 3:15 left until halftime.
Lawrenceburg led 45-22 after three quarters.
Lindsay Montgomery led all scorers with 17 points. Maddi Wilson and Danyka Groover had four each with Sydney Bostic and Saige Groover adding two and Kinsey Price one.
Rising Sun was 10-for-44 shooting plus 10-for-14 from the line.
Montgomery finished with eight rebounds with Groover adding five, Wilson four, Bostic three, Price two and Pitts one.
The Shiners had 17 turnovers.
Tourney MVP Juliana Kemper led the Tigers with15. Macey Radenheimer added 12 and Makenna White 11. Other scoring included Justice Chambers eight, Tristyn Dennis six, Madyson Oberting six, Jenna Farmer five, and Kierah Lowe one.
Kemper had 13 of Lawrenceburg’s 32 rebounds. The Tigers had 10 turnovers.
Rising Sun opens Ohio River Valley Conference play this week at Milan Tuesday and at South Ripley tonight (Thursday). They travel to Southwestern (Hanover) Tuesday before returning home against Jac-Cen-Del on Thursday, Jan. 17th.
