Lady Shiners drop two ORVC contests

The Rising Sun Lady Shiners opened Ohio River Valley Conference play with a pair of road losses at Milan and South Ripley.

  Milan downed the Shiners 44-26 . They led 14-5 after one quarter and 22-15 at the half. A 12-3 third quarter gave the Lady Indians a comfortable 34-18 lead headed into the final quarter

   Cionna Bailey led Milan with 21 points with Courtney Bruns adding 10.

   The Shiners were led by Lindsay Montgomery with 13 before fouling out. She had one field goal  with 11-for-13 from the line. Maddy Bovard added four points with Danyka Groover and Maddi Wilson scoring three, Sydney Bostic two and Kinsey Price one.

  Groover injured her knee and did not finish the game.

  Rising Sun had five field goals including two 3-pointers while 14-for-23 at the free throw line.

  Milan connected on 15 field goals plus a pair of 3-pointers and eight free throws.

   The senior forward missed the Shiners’ contest at South Ripley where the Raiders dropped Rising Sun to 0-2 in ORVC play with a 56-22 rout.

   Rising Sun led early but the host team went up 13-7 after one quarter and pushed the lead to 32-12 at the half behind the 3-point shooting of senior Morgan Peetz. It was 47-19 after three quarters.

   Peetz led all scorers with 17 including five 3-pointers. Elexah Roepke added 16 points and eight rebounds.

. The Shiners were led by Lindsay Montgomery with seven points and nine rebounds. Maddi Wilson added six points and four boards. Freshman Maddy Bovard added a 3-pointer. Bostic, Price and Sydney Pitts had two each.

  Rising Sun was 8-for-29 from the field while South Ripley had 20 field goals including 10 3-pointers.

  South Ripley won the reserve contest also. Rising Sun had scoring from Ashley Bowne (3), Pitts (2),Meranda Workman (2) and Halle Shorten (1). Because of Danyka Groover’s injury, Rising Sun used Price, Pitts and Wilson one quarter of reserve.

  Rising Sun was to travel to Southwestern Tuesday before hosting Jac-Cen-Del tonight (Thursday) and Switzerland County Tuesday. They close the regular season at Shawe next Thursday.
