Rising Sun senior Lucy Carrigan had an average night (23 points) but it was not enough as the Milan Lady Indians posted a 52-43 win on Thursday, Dec. 14th at Milan.
The two Ohio River Valley Conference rivals met for the first of two meetings this season in a non-conference contest which started out as a see saw affair. The teams traded baskets in the first quarter with the game tied at 9.
Rising Sun had no answer for Milan sophomore Cionna Bailey in the first half. The Indians got a spark from center Maddy Roell who buried a 3-pointer ad the Indians led by as much as 11. Shiner Sydney Pitts closed the gap to 29-20 at the half.
Milan increased the lead to 40-29 with eight minutes remaining.
Carrigan picked up her fourth foul with 6:56 remaining but managed to stay in the game, scoring seven of the Shiners’ final 11 points of the game. She marked her forth double double with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Danyka Groover added 10 points and eight rebounds. Pitts added four points and three boards. Kinsey Price, Emma Levi and Maddi Wilson added two points each. Saige Groover had five rebounds and Sydney Bostic one.
Bailey led Milan with 17. Roell added 11. Lexi Wert scored eight, Courtney Bruns seven, Alexa Burton five, Taylor Amberger and Anjeanette Laws two each.
Milan had a 31-29 rebounding advantage including 11 by Roell and nine by Bailey. Milan and had just 11 turnovers to 18 for RS.
Both teams connected on 14 two points field goals with the difference coming from five 3-pointers by Milan and three for the Shiners. Both teams struggled at the free throw line. Milan was 9-for-19 with Rising Sun 6-for-19.
The two teams will play their conference game on January 9 in Rising Sun.
Rising Sun host Medora tonight (Thursday) before Christmas break.
They will travel to Speedway for tourney action on Thursday, Dec. 28th.
