Hot June

June in Switzerland county is the third hottest month of the year over the long haul , and this June  was

slightly warmer than the long term average. Stepleton’s weather station measured an average high

temperature of 85.2 degrees and an average low of 63.8,which made the monthly average 74.5. Since the long

term average is 74.2,we endured 3/10 of a degree warmer than usual.

The high topped out at 96.4 on the 24th and the low dipped to 41.5 on the 1st. The temperature climbed

into the 90s on 7 days and 2 mornings were in the 40s.

So far this year 4 months have been colder than normal and 2 months warmer.

June is normally the 3rd wettest month of the year with a long term average precipitation of 4.32 inches,

but this June was considerably drier than normal at 2.91 as measured by Stepleton’s weather station. So,

we received 1.41 inches less rain than usual. Some rain came down on 14 days and the most (.56 of an

inch )fell on the 18th.

So far this year the county has received a total precipitation of 25.46 inches. The long term average for

the same period is 23.67,which means we are 1.79 inches ahead.

At my home on Drakes Ridge I measured a total precipitation of 3.44 inches for June.
