Absentee voting has begun for May primary

Absentee voting is underway in the commissioners room of the Ohio County Courthouse for the May 5 Rising Sun City Primary and School referendum.

County clerk Jamie Stegemiller and the Ohio County Election Board have set the following hours for absentee voting: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:30 .m. to 4:15 p.m.; and on Saturday, April 25th and May 2nd from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Hayden Hummel graduates from Law Enforcement Academy

On Friday, March 13th, 2015, Ohio County Sheriff's Deputy Hayden Hummel graduated from the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy as part of the 204th Basic Class.

Familiar face is Rising Sun’s newest citizen

Rising Sun's newest citizen is Mark William Tran Boetticher.

Formerly known as Minh Tran, the 21-year-old native of Vietnam was one of many who became naturalized citizens in Indianapolis in March.

Jake Uhlmansiek is 2105 Lilly Endowment Scholar for RSHS

Matthew Jacob Uhlmansiek, member of the 2015 graduating class of Rising Sun High School, has been named the recipient of a four year, full-tuition scholarship as the Ohio County Community Foundation 2015 Lilly Endowment Community Scholar.

Belle River baseball club season underway

The Rising Sun Belle River vintage baseball club has opened its 2015 season. Home games for Belle River are played at the field on Industrial Access Drive near Rising Star Casino.

‘Green Power 5K’ a rousing success for Ohio County 4-H program

The Ohio County 4-H held a "Green Power 5K" run/walk through Rising Sun on Saturday, April 11th, starting and ending at Rising Sun High School.

Green powder was thrown on people wearing a white T-shirt, a block from the end of the run/walk. People wearing a green T-shirt were safe from the Green powder.

‘QuiltFest’ has a fantastic weekend; attracts nearly 100 exhibits

The Annual Rising Sun QuiltFest attracted hundreds of quilt enthusiasts over this past weekend. The event was held from Friday March 27th through Sunday, March 29th at the Ohio County Historical Museum in Rising Sun.
