Switzerland County has a new Auditor.
Yvette Emmich was sworn in on Monday morning by Judge Greg Coy. She replaces Carolyn Green, who stepped down earlier.
Emmich was elected by a caucus of Republican Precinct Committeemen on October 6th, Green’s final day was last Friday, October 29th.
She comes into the office with a strong background in business and finance.
“I graduated from Switzerland County in 1983,” Emmich said. “After high school I went to college at Sullivan University; and from there I’ve been working in small, family-owned businesses and running their offices and accounting types of things. From there I worked in a medical facility in Madison for 15 years for Dr. Lisle’s Eye Care Group.”
Emmich said that she found out that the Auditor’s position was coming open about the last week of September.
Emmich lives on State Road 56 near Vevay with her significant other, Tommy Wingham. She has a daughter, Renee, who lives in the Hanover area, and two grandchildren: Nicholas, age 17 and Katherine age six.
“I’m very excited,” she said of her first day. “I got into the office a little bit before Carolyn left; and today I just jumped in. I’m swimming. I’m still treading water — I haven’t sunk yet. One day at a time.”
Emmich said that taking on the responsibilities of being the County Auditor is not something that a person can really prepare for until they’re actually in the office.
“You just have to ask a lot of questions,” she laughed.
And Emmich is also grateful for the team of deputies who remain in the office: Nancy Craig, Connie Christman, and Carolyn Miller.
“I can tell we’ve got a good team here,” she said. “Everybody knows what they’re doing except for me. They’re going to get really tired of me asking ‘how do you do this?’”
Emmich will now complete the term of Green, which is up in 2022 with the General Election on November 8th, 2022.
