The Taylor (OH) Yellow jackets swarmed all over their Indiana counterparts to sweep the ninth annual Beast of he Southeast held on Saturday, Aug. 19th on Denny Carrigan Trails at Denver Siekman Park in Rising Sun.
Host Rising Sun placed third in the six team boys race. Taylor, coached by former Shiner Jeff Smith, scored 41 followed by Southwestern 70, Rising Sun 73, Waldron 86, Hauser 95 and South Decatur 126.
Shiner Trevor Levi placed second (17:34.9 ) overall to Taylor’s Chase Grauel’s 17.31.7.
Nick Koons was next for RS with an 11th place finish in 19:47.5 Noah Pflum, was 17th in 20:47.7 with Jake Powell 20th in 21:16.4 and freshman Dalton Vinup 23rd in 21:44.3. Peyton Bell,was 25th (22:09.1) followed by Daniel Daugherty 28th (22:35.5 ), Brian Givan 32nd (23:32.6 ), Marc McClellan, 39th (25:53.2 ) and AJ Boes 41st (26:02.2)
Taylor took the girls title with 19 points (15 is a sweep). Rising Sun scored 56 followed by Southwestern had 64. South Decatur, Waldron and Hauser did not have the required five runners for a team score.
Rising Sun senior Kasey Baker was runner up to Taylor sophomore Hannah Korte, 21:41.0, Baker finished at 12 22:52.4. Taylor scored the next six places.
Shiner Lucy Carrigan was the next in ninth in 24:57.3. Kora Powell was 14th in the team scoring (31:09.4) followed by Brooke Taylor 32:43.0, Mackenzie Ellegood, 35:29.3, Abby Wallace, 35:40.7, freshman Chloe Fletcher 36:12.2 and Kiersten Pruiett, 38:30.
Rising Sun will compete in the Rushville Invitational on Saturday at 9 a.m.
