Warrior baseball team wins second straight tourney championship title

The Vevay Warriors 15 and under baseball team earned its second consecutive championship of the Madison League – and its fourth in the past six years – recently with an 11-3 victory over the Madison Royals.

The Warriors scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning after Madison opened the game with a run; and the Vevay squad then added three runs in the bottom of the fourth; four more in the bottom of the fifth; and two in the bottom of the sixth after Madison had plated two runs in the top of the inning.

Josh Cheatham went three innings to get the win, striking out two, and allowing just three hits and one earned run. Cade Rider pitched the final four innings, striking out nine and allowing two hits and two earned runs to earn the save.

Offensively: Colbee Boatman was 3-for-4 with three runs scored; Rider was 2-for-4 with four runs scored and two RBI; Dakota Wallace was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI; Logan Bennett was 1-for-4 with an RBI; Nate Bates scored a run and also had an RBI; Cheatham and Zack Weaver each had an RBI; and Carter Baldwin scored a run.

The team was coached by Chad Combs, Ryan Peters, and Shane Griffin.
