Volliers win two at home

The Rising Sun Lady Shiners defeated Switzerland County 3-1 in the best three out of five sets by scores of 25-23, 25-17, 11-25 and 25-15 on Thursday, Aug. 17th in Rising Sun.

The win improved their record to 3-2 on the season.

In game four, freshman Tyrrah Miller (14-for-16 with seven aces) set up match point with Abby Wallace (12-for-13 and an ace) serving match point.

The Shiners hitting attack was led by Danyka Groover (32-for-38 including 16 kills). Emma Sullivan was 20-for-23 with nine kills and four blocks. Thursday marked the 2017 debut of Lucy Phelps who delivered 14-for15 and eight kills. Miller was 8-for-9 and two kills with Emma Levi 3-for-5 and one kill while setter Caroline Stapleton had a kill.

Stapleton was 11-for-11 with six serving aces. Sydney Bostic was 9-for-10 and two aces. Kassidy Romans added 4-for-6 with freshman Gracie Bojack 3-for-3 serving. The Shiners were 57-for-66 for 86.4 percent serving.

Bostic, the team’s defensive libero, had a busy night with 32 dig attempts with Stapleton recording 12 and eight each by Miller and Romans with six by Wallace. Bostic had another 30 service receptions with Wallace adding 13, Romans and Miller 11 each. Stapleton had 20 setting assists.

The reserves lost 19-25  and 23-25 to SC.

It was Rising Sun’s second straight home win after a 25-14, 25-16, 25-17 win over South Decatur on Tuesday as they replaced regularly scheduled opponent Trinity Lutheran. Groover led the way with 12 kills followed by Sullivan five, Levi two and one each by Miller and Romans Sullivan two blocks.

Miller was 11-for-12 serving with four aces. Romans had 12-for-13 and an ace, Wallace added 10-for 12 and four aces, Bostic was 9-for-10 and an ace with Stapleton 6-for-7, Groover 6-for-7 and an ace and Bojack 1-for-2. They served 55-for-63 for 87.3 percent.

Bostic had 16 digs with Miller adding seven without a miscue Bostic and Miller handled most of the serve receptions with 33 and a1 attempts with Wallace and Romans 10 each. Stapleton had 20 assists
