The Rising Sun Lady Shiners returned to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Waldron on Friday.
It was a scary day for the Shiners as Sydney Bostic was in a car wreck earlier in the day. However, the junior libero was able to make the trip.
Coach Erin Gregory reported Bostic played half of each game with Kassidy Romans moving into the libero position.
Danyka Groover dominated play with 30-for-32 with 16 kills plus five blocks and 13-for-13 serving and two aces.
Lucy Phelps was 8-for-8 with five kills while Emma Sullivan was 7-for-8 with three kills and a block. Tyrrah Miller was 7-for-8 with two kills.
Senior Caroline Stapleton led the team in serving with 20-for-20 and four aces. Kassidy Romans was 13-for-17 sering. Abby Wallace was 8-for-11 and two aces. Bostic was 3-for-4 serving.
Miller and Romans led the team with 16 service receptions and had 15 and 13 digs respectively (both usually dominated by the injured Bostic).
Stapleton had 19 assists as team setter.
The win came after a pair of losses to Ohio River Valley conference foes Shawe and South Ripley.
Shawe defeated Rising Sun 3-2 on Tuesday with scores of 25-16, 22-25, 25-19, 15-25, and 15-6.
Groover continued her strong hitting season with 29 kills in 47 attempts. Phelps had six kills in 16 attempts. Sullivan added five kills in 13 attempts with Miller adding three kills and Levi one. Groover had four blocks and an assist. Miller and Sullivan had two blocks with one each by Levi and Phelps.
Caroline Stapleton (the team’s lone senior) led the serving with 22-for-24 with nine aces. Bostic was 7-for-7 with an ace. Miller added five aces. They were 54-for-54 for 84.4 percent serving as a team.
Bostic was tops for the team with 38 digs. Stapleton had 14 digs and 39 assists with two errors in 78 attempts.
South Ripley defeated the Shiners on Thursday 25-20, 25-12, and 27-25 at Rising Sun.
Groover’s 12 kills in 27 attempts couldn’t offset the Raiders 1-2 hitting attack of Kiley Sparks (14 kills) and Elexah Roepke (10 kills).
Rising Sun served 90.4 percent for its best mark of the season. Stapleton and Miller were 11-for-12 and three aces. Bostic was 9-for-10 and three aces. Romans was 7-for-8 with Groover 6-for-6 and an ace and Wallace 4-for-5.
Stapleton did not have a setting error with 19 assists. Bostic was 15-for-18 in digs and 28-for-31 in serve reception. Miller had 21, Wallace 17 and Romans 11 serve receptions.
Rising Sun reserves defeated Waldron 25-18 and 25-15.
