Volliers open ORVC win at Shawe

Coach Erin Gregory enjoyed her first Ohio River Valley Conference win after her Lady Shiners outlasted Shawe on Tuesday, Aug. 3oth at Madison.

The win put them at 1-0 in conference as they dropped the opening set 25-22 before winning 26-24 and 25-23. Shawe evened the match with a 25-18 win. Rising Sun took the fifth set 15-10.

IT was a strong hitting attack by the Shiners with sophomore Danyka Groover 31-for-34 with 18 kills. Claire Poling was 21-for-21 with eight kills. Lucy Carrigan was 15-for-21 and eight m=kills. Jacqueline Stapleton was 13-for-14 with three kills and Ally Pruiett 8-for-10 and two kills. Pruiett had four blocks with two each by Carrigan and Groover.

A strong serving night saw the Shiners 82-for-86 for 95 percent.

Jacqueline Stapleton was 21-for-22 with an ace. Caroline Stapleton was 11-for-11 with three aces. Sydney Bostic was 16-for-16 and Claire Poling 11-for-11 while Ally Pruiett was 15-for-16 with an ace and Lucy Carrigan 8-for-10.

Bostic led the defense with 20 digs while Caroline Stapleton had 22 assists.

Rising Sun reserves won 25-16, 25-16.

Kassidy Romans led the team with 10-for-12 serving and six aces. Emma Levi was 7-fo8 with Emalee Halloran 4-for-2 and two aces. Emma Sullivan and Alee Howlett were 4-for-5 and Nicole Becker 3-for-4.

Abby Wallace had four kills, Emma Sullivan two and Saige Groover one.

Rising Sun returned home for the first of two matches this season against ORVC foe South Ripley in a non-conference match.

The Lady Raiders downed RS 25-12, 25-19, 25-15.

Lucy Carrigan led the hitting with 15-for-19 and six kills. Danyka Groover was 11-for-16 ad six kills. Claire Poling was 10-for-12 with three kills. Jacqueline Stapleton was 7-for-7 with two kills and Ally Pruiett 2-for-7 and a kill.

However, Rising Sun didn’t have an answer for South Ripley’s hard hitting attack by Elexah Roepke and Kylie Sparks. The Raiders had 108 spike attempts to 61 for the Shiners.

Rising Sun serving continued to be strong with a 100 percent for the first time this season.

Caroline and Jacqueline Stapleton were 8-for-8 while Carrigan, Bostic and Poling were 4-for-4. Pruiett was 3-for-3 and reserve Abby Wallace added 2-for-2.

South Ripley had 96 percent serving but had 71 serves to 33 to 33 for the Shiners.

Carline Stapleton had 18 assists. Bostic led the defense with 14 digs and 26 service receptions.

South Ripley won the reserve contest 25-20, 15-9 after Rising Sun took the opening set 25-22.

Romans led the serving with 9-for-11 and three aces. Wallace was 6-for-6 with Levi and Howlett 6-for-8, Becker 2-for-2 and Halloran 1-for-2.

Sullivan had four kills and two blocks with Wallace adding three and Groover one.

Rising Sun was scheduled to play at Southwestern Tuesday before hosting Milan tonight (Thursday). They compete in the Connersville Invitational Saturday and host Lawrenceburg on Monday.
