Volliers drop pair of non-conference tilts


The Rising Sun Lady Shiners volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches this past week.

On Wednesday, Sept. 13th, Rising Sun came up short in a 3-2 loss at New Washington.

The host Mustangs won the opening contest 25-17 before Rising Sun won 25-19 an 25-20. NW won set four 25-12 then took the deciding set in overtime, 16-14.

Rising Sun played with front line leader Danyka Groover who was attending a funeral.

Emma Sullivan picked up the slack with seven kills and seven blocks. Lucy Phelps added three kills and four blocks. Tyrrah Millet had five kills with Ea Levi adding four kills and two each by Caroline Stapleton and Sydney Bostic.

Stapleton continued to lead the Shiner servers with 17-for-17 and three aces. Abby Wallace was 21-for-22 with three aces. Lucy Phelps was 19-for-22 with three aces. Kassidy Romans was 8-for-10 and an ace with Miller 6-for-10 and three aces.

Bostic was 31-for-37 in serve reception and 38-for-45 in digs. Miller was 25-for-30 and 26-for-31 respectively.

The Shiners and Groover returned to action on Friday but were swept at home by Morristown 25-23, 25-20 and 25-16.

Groover pounded 11 kills and had six blocks. Levi had three kills with Bostic adding two and Sullivan one.

The Shiners served 89.1 percent with Bostic and Wallace 9-for-9 and an ace each. Stapleton was 8-for-8 with three aces and Romans 5-fo-5 with an ace.

Stapleton was perfect setting with 15 assists. Bostic and White continued to lead the team in serve receptions and digs.

Rising Sun comes into the week with a 7-13 record and 2-3 in ORVC play. They close out the conference season at Switzerland County tonight (Thursday) and travel to South Decatur on Tuesday.
