
Rising Sun’s Dalton Vinup qualified for the 2018 Shelbyville Regional with a 24th place finish in the South Dearborn Sectional on Saturday in Moores Hill.
Batesville dominated the boys and girls team championships as the top five teams advanced to the regional.
Those teams include Batesville 22, Greensburg 64, East Central 73, Jac-Cen-Del 97 and Oldenburg Academy with 106.
Vinup was one of 10 runners advancing but not on a qualifying team. His time was 19:24.8.

Freshman Grant Taylor was running a strong race along with Vinup but did not finish because a nagging leg injury. Chris Bowne was the second Shiner to finish with a 55th place time of 23:12.2 followed by Brian Givan 59th in 24:19.4 and A.J. Boes in 69th at 28:44.4. They did not have five runners to record a team score.
Batesville freshman Ean Loichinger was an easy winner in 16:29.9 ahead of teammate Adam Moster in 17:11.9. Batesville had five runners in the top eight.
Batesville girls won the meet with 43 points. Greensburg was runner-up with 52 followed by East Central 83, South Ripley 93 and South Dearborn to advance to the regional.
Greensburg’s Brenner Hanna won the 3.1 mile race in 18:58.6 with South Ripley’s Megan Cole runner up in 19:15.3.
Rising Sun had three runners this season and did not compete in the sectional.
