Vevay Bicentennial: ‘Statement of Purpose’

The second organizational meeting of the Vevay Bicentennial 2013 committee was held on Monday night, and as the group continues to seek volunteers and input from the community, a “Statement of Purpose” was agreed upon as the group moves forward.

Those who attended the group’s first meeting were asked by Vevay Town Council President Tye Sullivan to submit their ideas on a statement that would serve as a guide and provide direction as the group plans and organizes the Bicentennial celebration.

The statement that the group approved is:

“Honor the past, Celebrate the present, and Inspire a vision for the future of Vevay, Switzerland County, Indiana”.

Also at Monday’s meeting the group got to view video footage that had been filmed during the town’s Sesquicentennial Celebration, narrated by chairman Joe Ricketts.

Any organization that would like to show this video at a meeting should contact Pam Acton at 427-9160.

The next organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 4th. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Vevay Utilities Building on Seminary Street.

Items to be discussed at the next meeting include possible dates for the events and a time frame; and also the naming of a chairperson or chairpersons to lead the organizational efforts.

There is a need for as many people in the community to participate in the organizational process, as well as civic organizations and businesses.

It is also hoped that school children will also become involved in the program.

Anyone needing more information should email Tye Sullivan at The Bicentennial also has a Facebook group, and those wishing to join may do so by searching Vevay Bicentennial 2013.
