Varsity softball splits games with Tigers

The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity softball team split a pair of games on Saturday with Lawrenceburg.

In the first game of the doubleheader, the Tigers won by a score of 6-1.

Switzerland County scored its lone run when Hayley South got a base hit; followed by a Hailee Smith sacrifice. Jenna Daugherty then drove home the run with a base hit.

Getting hits in the opener were Jenna Daugherty; Becky Turner; Hayley South; and Trisha Smith.

On the mound, Becky Turner recorded 11 strikeouts; but the Lady Pacer defense showed its inexperience by committing four errors in the game.

In the second game, Switzerland County rebounded to record a 1-0 win.

Jenna Daugherty’s double was followed by a double by Catie Johnson to provide the only run of the game; and Rachel Griffin’s pitching, including six strikeouts, held Lawrenceburg’s offense at bay.

Offensively, Jenna Daugherty was 2-for-2; Catie Johnson was 1-for-3; Kelsi South was 1-for-3; Ashley Poling was 1-for-3; Hayley South was 1-for-3; and Trisha Smith was 1-for-1.

Jenna Daugherty also had two stolen bases.

“We had good pitching and defense in the second game, but our offense is still struggling,” head coach Steven Konkle said.

Monday’s game at South Ripley was rained out, and will be played this Saturday, April 18th, at 10 a.m.
