The Switzerland County School Board is expected to fill its vacancy on the board this Monday during its regular meeting.
The seat, which represents Pleasant Township, was vacated last month with the resignation of Tammy Hayes.
Per state regulations, the school corporation posted the vacancy, asking for candidates who were qualified to serve and have lived in Pleasant Township for at least one year.
As of the deadline to file on Monday, there were two candidates: Katie Collier and Jim Phipps.
Those two candidates were to go through a 30-minute interview, question and answer session with the other board members last night (Wednesday); and the six board members currently serving: Wayne Daugherty, Bill Roberts, Josh Deck, Nancy Peters, Joe Bennett, and Jill Cord; are expected to vote at Monday night’s meeting on which candidate will serve the remaining two years of Tammy Hayes’ term.
The meeting on Monday will begin at 5 p.m.; and the posted school board agenda says that the appointment will be made during the personnel segment of the meeting, which is near the end of the agenda.
The meeting is open to the public.
Should the six school board members not be able to reach a majority decision, the matter would go to Switzerland County Circuit Court Judge Greg Coy, who would then make the appointment.
