Two vehicle accident results in injuries to county residents

A two vehicle accident on North State Road 56 at the intersection of McCreary’s Road in Cotton Township last Wednesday resulted in injuries to two county residents – one seriously.

At approximately 3:24 p.m. last Wednesday, the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a report of a two vehicle accident with injuries located on North State Road 56 approximately a half mile south of East Enterprise.

Deputies responded to a report of a two vehicle accident with each driver reported to be injured. The report told officials that a female driver was unresponsive inside one of the vehicles.

The male driver of red Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck was identified as James Welch, 76, of Bennington. The female driver of a red Pontiac Grand AM passenger car was identified as Ashley Works, 19, of Bennington.

James Welch was transported to Dearborn County Hospital by Switzerland County EMS for treatment of his injuries and was later released.

Ashley Works was transported to University Hospital in Cincinnati Ohio by PHI air ambulance for treatment of her injuries.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Switzerland County Sheriff’s Office.

Other units assisting at the scene were members of the East Enterprise Fire Department, and Switzerland County EMS.

Update: Ashley Works continues to make progress from her injuries, and is still a patient at University Hospital in Cincinnati.

Family members report that she has been eating, and early this week was able to walk with assistance. She is also communicating with family members and friends.

Initially, it was anticipated that she would be transferred at some point to a rehabilitation facility for further treatment of her injuries, but family members report that doctors have seen enough progress that she may be released to come home soon without having to go to a rehabilitation center.
