The Rising Sun Lady Shiners dropped a pair of contests last week including a 67 to 27 loss to conference foe South Ripley on Friday, Dec. 2nd in Rising Sun.
Rising Sun had 22 turnovers against their Ohio River Valley Conference foe in the first of two meetings this season.
Junior Lucy Carrigan (ORVC player of the week coming in) led Rising Sun with 20 points and six rebounds. The remaining points included four by Sydney Bostic, two by Jayden McAlister and one by Chelsea Brown.
Coach Abby Friend was without sophomore guard Keira Oser who is out with a torn ACL and MCL.
Meanwhile, South Ripley had eight players in the scoring column with three in double figures. Elexah Roepke led the Raiders with 15. Kiley Sparks had 11 and Toria Turner 10. Julia Rea added six with five each by Morgan Peetz, Cameo Hamm and Mackenzie Black. Cierra Copeland had two.
Rising Sun was 10-for-40 from the field plus 0-for-15 from behind the arc and 7-for-12 at the free throw line.
South Ripley was 25-for-63 including a pair of 3-pointers.
Carrigan opened the game with a steal and fast break basket before South Ripley went on a 12-0 run. The Raiders led 21-4 after one quarter, 33-14 at the half and 51-23 after three quarters.
Earlier in the week, Rising Sun played hard but lost 33 to 26 at South Dearborn on Tuesday. It was a battle of two young teams with neither having a senior on the roster.
SD led 14 to 9 after one quarter as Brooke Huddleston buried three 3-pointsers. Carrigan scored all nine Shiner points en route to a game high 17 points, seven rebounds and four steals.
Second quarter action saw both teams struggle as a 3-pointer by Brittany Beil and basket by Chelsea Brown were the only scoring as the game was 17- 11 at the half. It 27-18 after three quarters.
Rising Sun had a 34 to 23 rebounding advantage and was 9-for-11 at the line to 5-for-12 for SD.
The Lady Knights took 51 shots to 32 for Rising Sun, including 6-for-27 from three point range.
Bostic led all rebounders with 11. Brown added five rebounds to go with four points and three steals. Oser had three points and two rebounds while Saige Groover had a basket.
South Dearborn was led by Jaelyn Lows with 12 points, five rebounds and five of SD’s 14 steals.
Brooke Huddleston had three 3-pointers for nine plus four rebounds, two assists and three steals. Brittany Beil had six with Alyssa McClanahan scoring four and Danielle Clark two.
Rising Sun returns home to host Trinity Lutheran tonight (Thursday) after a road trip to Oldenburg on Tuesday. They will host Milan on Thursday, Dec. 8th in a non-conference contest.
