As the Switzerland County boys and girls varsity track teams get ready to host the conference meet tonight (Thursday); both squads have been busy with tune up meets.
The Switzerland County girls track team traveled to South Ripley last Tuesday, to participate in a four way meet. The girls placed third in the meet with 47 points; South Ripley finished with 90 points, Jac-Cen-Del had 60 and Shawe finished with 23 points in the meet.
Ashley Chase had two first places; winning the 100-meter dash in a time of :12.4; and the 200-meter dash in :26.8. April Thieman placed first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:08; and placed third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the long jump.
Amanda Hon placed second in the 1,600-meter run and the 3,200-meter run. Beth Abbott placed third in the 3,200-meter run; Laci Daugherty placed third in the 300-meter hurdles and fourth in the 100-meter hurdles. Christina Ahaus placed third in the shot put; while Rosie Larson placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run and fifth in the 800-meter run. Shana Todd placed fifth in the 400-meter dash.
The girls track team also participated in the Rising Sun Invitational last Thursday. They earned sixth place overall with a score of 38.5. South Dearborn finished first with 180 points, while Southwestern was second with 75.
April Thieman was the only athlete to place first for the Pacers, with an effort of 13’ 9” in the long jump. She also placed third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 400-meter dash.
Amanda Hon placed third in the 3,200-meter run; and Laci Daugherty was third in the long jump.
Christina Ahaus placed fourth in shot put; while Rosie Larson broke her personal record and placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run.

The Switzerland County boys track team also competed at South Ripley last Tuesday, earning second place with a score of 77. South Ripley finished first with 87 points; Shawe placed third with 33 points; and Jac-Cen-Del finished fourth with 31.
Earning first place was B. J. Shelton in the shot put with a personal record of 45’ 3”; and Ben Hickman placed first in the long jump and 200-meter dash; and was second in the 100-meter dash. Brandon Otter placed first in the high jump with a personal record of 6’; while finishing third in the long jump; and Nathan Hickman placed first in the 300-meter high hurdles, breaking his personal record with a time of :45.65; and earned second in the 110-meter high hurdles.
The relay team of Ben Hickman, Nathan Hickman, Brandon Otter and Kyle Green won the 400-meter relay; while the team of Chad Robinson, Matt Johnson, Nathan Hickman and Jim Abbott placed second in the 1,600-meter relay. Also placing second in the 3,200-meter relay was Matt Johnson, Jim Abbott, Josh Wegman and Chad Robinson.
Jim Abbott placed second in the 3,200-meter run and fourth in the 1,600-meter run.
Kyle Green placed second in the high jump; fourth place in the 110 high hurdles and in shot put.
Matt Johnson placed third in the 400-meter dash and fourth in the 800-meter run; Joe Spoores placed fifth in discus.
The Pacer boys track team also participated in the Rising Sun Invitational last Thursday, earning fifth place with a score of 58 points. Rising Sun placed first with 106 points; while Southwestern was second with 92.
Placing first in the long jump was Ben Hickman; while B. J. Shelton placed first in shot put; and Brandon Otter broke his personal best with a jump of 6’ 3” to win the high jump .
Kyle Green placed second in the high jump; Nathan Hickman placed second in the 300-meter high hurdles and broke his personal record with a time of :44.3; and he also placed fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles. The 400-meter relay team of Matt Johnson, Nathan Hickman, Kyle Green and Brandon Otter also placed fourth.
Jim Abbott placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run; and Matt Johnson placed fifth in the 800-meter run.
Top performers nominated by the coach were Brandon Otter and Nathan Hickman for breaking their personal records. “I was very happy with several performances tonight, particularly with Brandon Otter and Nathan Hickman,” Coach McGarvey said.
The Switzerland County High School track teams will be participating in the ORVC, which will be held at home tonight (Thursday) beginning at 5 p.m.
