THE VETERANS OF SWITZERLAND COUNTY will again hold Memorial Day observances this Monday, May 29th. The ceremony will be held beginning at 11 a.m.
Although the number of those attending has increased in recent years, the observance still doesn’t get the attendance numbers that it deserves.
So why come on your holiday? Well, it’s not just for the speaker (although I hear he’s excellent).
There are 67 reasons why you should come to the courthouse and participate.
From Herbert Barker to Robert Williamson — World War I to Vietnam — they are the names of 67 Switzerland County serviceman who gave their lives in defense of this country’s freedoms — of your freedoms.
You get a day off from work on Monday because of that sacrifice, it only seems fair that you take an hour out of that day to remember those men.
