The 2022 Switzerland County 4-H Fair will hold its first official event this Sunday evening, June 26th, when the 2022 Switzerland County 4-H Fair Queen is crowned.
The program will be held in the cafeteria at Switzerland County High School, and will begin at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend, and there is no admission fee.
This year there are three candidates for the title. The Queen and her court will reign over this year’s fair, which runs from Saturday, July 2nd through Saturday, July 9th.
The Switzerland County Queen will also participate in the Indiana State Fair Queen pageant, representing the county.
Here’s a look at this year’s candidates:
—ALISHA DETMER is 18 years old, and is a 2022 graduate of Switzerland County High School, where she was honored as Class Valedictorian. She is the daughter of Allen and Michelle Detmer, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Swiss Caps.
Alisha was honored at Miss Congeniality of the 2021 Swiss Wine Festival Edelweiss Princess pageant; was the 2021 winner of the FFA’s District 1 Dairy Contest; and also participated in various sports while in high school.
She earned All Conference honors in cross country, track, and swim; and was also honored by the ORVC by being named the winner of the conference’s Mental Attitude Award in swim. She also was a Regional qualifier in both track and cross country.
Her hobbies include horseback riding, painting, swimming, and running.
Her career ambition to finish medical school and pursue a career as a surgeon.
— RAYCHEL JOLYN HENSLEY is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by Beulah & Mary’s, and is the daughter of Charlotte Hensley. The 18-year old is a 2022 graduate of Switzerland County High School.
Raychel was the fourth runner up on the 2018 and 2019 Edelweiss Pre-Teen pageant at the Swiss Wine Festival, and in 2021 she was the fourth runner up in the Festival’s Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant.
She was involved in the Switzerland County FFA program while in high school; and is a 10-year member of the Switzerland County 4-H program. She enjoys working with livestock.
Raychel’s career ambition is the attend the University of Louisville.
— HAILEY HINES is 18 years old and is being sponsored in the pageant by Rider Realty. The daughter of James Hines, Hailey is a 2022 graduate of Switzerland County High School, where she was Class President.
Hailey is the reigning 2022 Queen of Hearts; was the 2021 Edelweiss Princess; and while in high school she was a four year member of the Switzerland County varsity girls golf team where she earned All Conference honors in 2020 and 2021, was the low medalist her senior year. She also participated in BPA, earned inclusion in the National Honor Society; and was a member of the National Historical Society.
She volunteers her time at the Switzerland County Animal Shelter; and plays golf in her spare time.
Her career ambition to to attend the University of Louisville this fall and earn a degree in mechanical engineering.
