Teen Princess pageant opens the 2008 Swiss Wine Festival on the riverfront

“Where the Fun Flows” is the theme of the 37th Swiss Wine Festival in Vevay – and that fun starts flowing tonight (Thursday) as the four-day festival gets underway with the Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant. There are 11 young ladies vying for the title of Teen Princess, with the program getting underway at the Main Stage of the festival beginning at 8 p.m.

The winner of the Teen Princess pageant will join Princess Emilee Waldron and Prince Jacob Haskell in reigning over this year’s festival, which features plenty of activities sure to please the entire family.

Here’s a look at this year’s Teen Princess contestants:

– ANDREA NICOLE BROGAN: Andrea Brogan is the daughter of James and Rita Brogan of Florence, and is being sponsored in tonight’s pageant by Mary Kay Cosmetics, Patty Chase. She is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School.

She participates in cross country, where last year she earned the Most Valuable Freshman Award and the Most Improved Award; is a varsity cheerleader; and also participates in track. She was the fourth runner up in the 2007 Teen Princess Pageant; was vice president of her freshman class; and is involved in the FFA, Pep Club, and 4-H Junior Leaders. She is a member of the Florence Church of Christ.

Following high school she plans on pursuing a career as a registered nurse; and someday hopes to work on AirCare.

– KIMBERLY ELIZABETH COX: Kim Cox is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by Danner’s Hardware, and is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Dave and Debbie Cox of near Vevay.

She is a member of the French Club and the Junior Historical Society; and as a freshman was a starter on the Lady Pacer varsity soccer team. She is also a member of the girls varsity track team; and the girls freshman softball team. She currently maintains a 4.0 grade point average.

She is unsure of her career plans following graduation, but is considering career fields such as law enforcement; forensics; or teaching.

- CHELSEA DAWN DUVALL: Chelsea Duvall is a freshman at Switzerland County High School and is the daughter of Shonda and Tony Rose of East Enterprise and Tim and Toni Young of Center Square. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Cathy McAlister, independent Longaberger consultant.

She is very active in 4-H, having earned Grand Champion status in several projects, including showing this year’s Grand Champion steer. She has also earned showmanship awards in 4-H. She is active in FFA, where she was president of her middle school chapter and was a regional award winner; and also served as a peer mediator. She was involved in student council, where she was co-president; and also was president of her eighth grade class. She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society.

She plans on attending Purdue University to major in animal science; and would then like to attend Purdue’s veterinary school with a goal of becoming a veterinarian.

– ASHLEY NICOLE GREEN: Ashley Green is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by The Mustard Lady. She is the daughter of Jenny and Greg Green of near East Enterprise.

She has earned academic awards in Spanish, English, and science; and was a member of the All A Honor Roll for both semesters of her freshman year. She was the Most Improved Player on her soccer team; earned Best Section honors in band; and is a member of the varsity soccer team. She is involved in 4-H, having earned showmanship honors with her swine project, and she is also involved in the Junior Leaders.

She plans on attending Purdue University following graduation with a career goal of becoming a veterinarian.

– BAYLIE DANIELLE JUDY: Baylie Judy is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by West Main Supply; and is a junior at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Robert and Shannon Judy of near Fairview.

She is a member of the National Honor Society; the Pep Club; and is the historian of the student council. She is in her second year as a varsity cheerleader; and also enjoys singing, dancing, and fishing. She also enjoys watching cartoon movies.

Following graduation from high school, she plans on attending college to pursue a career as an ultrasound technician.

– PAIGE MICHELLE KELLY: Paige Kelly is the daughter of Kevin and Lana Kelly of Pleasant View Road; and is a sophomore this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Twisted Ends.

She is a seven year member of the Switzerland County 4-H program; and is also a member of the Switzerland County FFA chapter. She was voted as having the “Best Hair” by her classmates; and enjoys basketball, softball, shopping, and texting on her phone.

Her career plans include becoming a cosmetologist.

– ASHLEY NICOLE POLING: Ashley Poling is the daughter of Wesley and Ragina Poling of near Vevay; and is a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by Errol Judy Construction.

She is a member of the National Junior Honor Society; the Pep Club; STATS; and FFA, where she is active in the club’s homeless project. She is a member of the jayvee and varsity volleyball teams; the junior varsity softball team; and earned a perfect attendance award last year. She also attends Big Stuf Camp in Panama City Beach, Florida; and is on the A-B Honor Roll.

Following graduation she plans on attending Indiana University to pursue a career as a pediatric physical therapist.

– JESSIE CLARICE RAY: Jessie Ray is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School; and is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by The Julia Knox House Gift Shop. She is the daughter of Troy Ray of near Vevay and Billie Ray of Vevay.

She was president of her freshman class; and is active in the Switzerland County FFA chapter, where she earned first place in the District 12 extemporaneous public speaking competition. She has earned inclusion on the A-B Honor Roll, and is a member of the National Junior Honor Society. She is a member of the volleyball team; and is a varsity cheerleader.

Her career goal is to have a job in the medical profession that allows her to wear business attire.

– SHAYLA ADRIANNA SMITH: Shayla Smith is the daughter of Betty Andrew of near Pleasant and Troy Smith of near Vevay; and is a junior at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Mo’s Steakhouse.

In high school she is active in student council; the Switzerland County FFA chapter; and the French Club. She is active in the Pep Club; has earned inclusion on the Honor Roll; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She enjoys volleyball, running, singing, cooking, swimming, an working with computers.

Following graduation her career plans are to attend The Ohio State University and study to become a clinical psychologist.

– HALIE SUE THOMAS: Halie Thomas is being sponsored in this year’s pageant by the Switzerland County High School Key Club; and is a sophomore at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Harold and Tina Thomas of near Vevay.

She is a varsity cheerleader this year; and is also active in the Key Club; the Pep Club; and the Switzerland County FFA chapter. She is also a member of the Switzerland County High School cross country and track teams.

She is undecided on her plans following high school.

– ASHLEY LYNNE WORKS: Ashley Works is the daughter of Lynn and Sandra Works of near Allensville, and is a freshman this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Works Excavating.

She is a six-year member of the Switzerland County 4-H program; and in middle school was active in the Builders Club. She was a four-year member of the Switzerland County band program; and enjoys dancing, talking on the phone; singing; and volleyball.

Following graduation, her career plans include attending college to pursue a career as a neo-natal nurse.
