The Rising Sun Ohio County Community School Board of trustees voted to approve a new contract with the Ohio County Teachers Association during a meeting on Thursday, Sept. 29th.
Teachers had approved the contract on Tuesday, Sept. 27th.
Teachers received a $400 increase last year which was the first in six years according to superintendent Branden Roeder.
The board approved the school budget along with bus replacement and capital projects fund.
A reduction resolution was made of $120,000 in the rainy day fund for funds the corporation won’t spend this year but could next year, leaving $60,000 available if needed this year. The school can have up to $180,000 in the fund.
Fall intercession teachers at the Ohio County Elementary Middle School will be Barb Smith, Lindsey Merica, Karen Chase, Chandra Phillips, Jennifer Mossburger and Catherine McMonigle (as needed).
Alex Dennis was approved as fifth and sixth grade boys intramurals. Barb Smith will oversee the intramural program for the girls.
Doreanna Bruegge was hired as medical assistant at Rising Sun High School.
Roeder showed a slide presentation entitled Shiner showcase to show the happenings thus far this year.
Roeder thanked the Rising Sun Regional Foundation for a grant that allowed for the resurfacing the high school gym.
He added that another $40,000 grant has been approved which will help pay for new curtains for elementary and high school cafeterias plus a machine to remove max from the floors. There is $20,000 set aside for resurfacing the track.
The next meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 20th at 6:30 p.m.
