Taylor, Rebels win Pumpkin Invitational

The Rising Sun Shiner boys placed third and girls were fifth in the 24th Annual South Ripley Great Pumpkin Invitational on Thursday in Versailles.

Taylor (Ohio) senior Nick Fox won the race in 16:34. However, Southwestern scored 53 points to edge Taylor’s 64 for first place.

Southwestern’s Bradley Winston led the his team with a second overall time of 16:40.

Rising Sun’s Trevor Levi was third in 16:49.4 to lead the Shiners to a third place team finish with 86. Other team scores included South Ripley 106, Milan 138, Jac-Cen-Del 145, South Decatur 153, and North Decatur 155.

Nick Koons placed 13th for the Shiners in 18:51.4 followed by Dalton Vinup in 19:07.7, Noah Pflum 24th in 19:40.1, Jake Powell 29th in 20:11.3, Daniel Daugherty 39th in 21:16.6 and Brian Givan 51st in 23:21.4.

AJ Boes ran a 23:58.1 and Marc McClellan 24:37.6 in the reserve meet.

In the girls race, the Rebels ran fourth with a team score of 98. Taylor won the meet with a 27 while Jac-Cen-Del was second at 72 followed by South Ripley 79, Southwestern 98, Rising Sun 131, North Decatur 171, Milan 173 and South Decatur 178.

Hannah Korte of Taylor won in 19:34. South Ripley’s Megan Cole was second in 20:23 and Jac-Cen-Del’s Shianna Bellingham was third in 20:51,

Kasey Baker led the Shiners with a fifth place time of 21:11.3.

Lucy Carrigan was 17th overall in 23:44.2. Kora Powell was 35th in 27:22.1followed by Keira Mann in 37th at 28:01.1, McKenzie Ellegood 38th in 28:01.9, Brooke Taylor 44th in 31:24.7 and Kaleigh Mann in 32:10.9.

Kiersten Pruiett turned in a time of 36:05.9 and Chloe Fletcher finished in 37:17.6 in serve results.

Rising Sun did not compete in the Courier Invitational on Saturday but will return to Hanover College on Saturday, Oct. 7th for the Ohio River Valley Conference meet at 3 p.m.
