Switzerland County School Superintendent Mike Jones took a moment to remember longtime teacher Bonnie Fancher during the Monday, June 15.
“She was a beloved teacher,” Jones said of his friend and fellow teacher, who passed away Friday, June 12 as a result of brain cancer.
Jones taught seventh grade geography and Fancher taught science before moving to the high school.
“She was a great teacher and cared a lot for her students,” he added. “She was a dedicated staff member and loved the school and her students. She will be greatly missed.”
Jones asked for everyone to remember Janet Hendricks who lost her husband on Thursday, June 11.
Word of the deaths spread on social media prompting high school athletic director David Todd to post on Facebook: I can unequivocally say that I have never met anyone as passionate about her occupation as her…she truly loved teaching and cared about everyone of her students! She will be dearly missed…sad day for many of us but a wonderful day for Bonnie! It was her time and she is at peace and in no pain at home with God! Difficult day for Switzerland County Schools as we also lost Kent Hendricks, Janet’s husband. Please pray for both families.
Former student Roger Hilligoss added Mrs. Fancher was one of my favorite teachers and mentors. I owe a lot of who I am today to the influence she had on me.
Funeral service for Fancher will be 1 p.m. Thursday, June 18 at Markland Funeral Home. Hendricks funeral was Wednesday at Haskell & Morison Funeral Home. See complete obituaries on page 3.
