Switzerland County Relay For Life is set for tomorrow night

Starting at 6 p.m. tomorrow (Friday), Relay For Life of Switzerland County will kick-off at the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park. This year’s theme of “Celebrating Birthdays” refers to the American Cancer Society’s motto of being an official sponsor of birthdays. Their wish is a lot more birthdays cancer free and encourages Relay For Life participants and other supporters to help create more birthdays by raising money for research, education, advocacy and service. Registration and luminary purchases are available just inside the gate.

Lap one is at 6 p.m. and for cancer survivors. The second lap honors all caregivers. Perhaps the most emotional time of the night is the luminary ceremony that will begin around 10 p.m. Luminaries can be purchased for $5 and will be placed around the track “In Memory” of a loved one who lost their battle with cancer or “In Honor” of a cancer survivor or a current cancer patient. Each person’s name will be read out loud as a reminder of the purpose of Relay For Life.

At press time, Switzerland County had 19 teams signed up all coming together to fight for a cure. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to be part of the activities. Each team will have a site at the park with food and activities. There will be a live auction at 8 p.m. with auctioneer Bobby Owings. Music and other entertainment are planned.
