The 2011 Swiss Wine Festival gets underway this Sunday evening – even though the festival itself will not begin for another three weeks.
Sunday night at the CenterStage Showroom at Belterra Casino Resort and Spa, this year’s Edelweiss Princess will be crowned. She and her court will then reign over the four-day festival, which is set for August 25th-28th in the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park.
The scholarship program will get underway at 6:30 p.m.
Here’s a look at this year’s contestants:
– ANDREA NICOLE BROGAN: Andrea is the daughter of James and Rita Brogan of near Florence, and will be a freshman this fall at Northern Kentucky University. She is being sponsored in the pageant by the Switzerland County Democratic Party.
She was a four-year varsity cheerleader; was the 2010 Miss Switzerland County; and the 2011 Queen of Hearts. She was voted “Future Farmer” by her senior classmates; and was President of the FFA chapter her senior year.
Her career plans are to obtain a bachelor’s degree in nursing or athletic training.
- EMILY ANN BUSH: Emily will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored by Sheets and Sons Enterprises. She is the daughter of Lee Ann Bush and Denton Bush and the step daughter of Jeff May.
In high school she has earned a choir award from ISSMA; and enjoys texting, working, babysitting, hanging out with her friends, and shopping.
Following high school her career plans are undecided, but she hopes to have a career in the medical field.
– KIMBERLY ELIZABETH COX: Kim is being sponsored in the pageant by CVS Pharmacy, and is the daughter of David and Debbie Cox of near Vevay. She will be a freshman this fall at Manchester College.
In high school she was the President of the National Honor Society; Vice President of the senior class and the Junior Historical Society; and was Class Valedictorian. She earned the Lilly Endowment Scholarship; and was a two year captain of the girls varsity soccer team, and was All Sectional in soccer in 2010. She was also a member of the Drama Club.
Her career ambition is to pursue a doctorate in pharmacy.
– CHELSEA DAWN DUVALL: Chelsea is the daughter of Shonda and Tony Rose and Tim and Toni Young; and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored by Twisted Ends Hair Salon.
She showed the Grand Champion steers at the 4-H Fair in both 2004, 2008, and this year. She was the first runner up in the 2009 Queen of Hearts pageant; and was the second runner up in the 2010 Miss Switzerland County pageant. She served as President of the Key Club; earned her State FFA degree; and is a member of the National Honor Society and BPA.
After graduation, she plans on attending Purdue University to major in animal science with a pre-vet medicine option, and then attend Vet School.
– ASHLEY NICOLE GREEN: Ashley Green will be a freshman this fall at Purdue University, and is being sponsored by Howard Hazeldean Construction. She is the daughter of Greg and Jenny Green of near East Enterprise.
She earned the Paul Ogle Scholarship this year; and also earned the State 4-H Scholarship. She was the 2010 of the Ohio County 4-H Fair; and was the second runner up in the 2008 Edelweiss Teen Princess pageant. She was a member of the National Honor Society, and was valedictorian of the Class of 2011.
As she attends Purdue University, Ashley plans on earning a degree in veterinary medicine.
– KELLY JO KINCAID: Kelly is the daughter of Gina Kincaid and Scotty Kincaid, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Swiss Caps.
In high school she earned the Speech Communication Award and the Microsoft Word Specialist Award; and is a member of the varsity basketball and track teams, where she earned All conference honors. She is a member of the FCA and FFA, and also the Olive Branch Baptist Church Youth Group.
Following graduation, Kelly plans on attending college and earning a degree in pharmacy or nursing.
– MORIAH SUZANNE McFARLAND: Moriah is the daughter of Brian and Tracey McFarland, and is being sponsored in the pageant by Nature’s Bounty Taxidermy. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School.
She has earned awards in soccer and cross country; and was one of Switzerland County High School’s delegate to Hoosier Girls State this summer. She was a member of the Indiana House Page Program; and is a member of the Switzerland County YMCA, North Madison Christian Church; and the FFA.
Following graduation, Moriah plans on attending college to pursue a career in family and teen counseling.
– JESSIE CLARICE RAY: Jessie is the daughter of Troy Ray and Billie and Shane Jackson; and is being sponsored in the pageant by The Ridge Winery Tasting Room. She will be a freshman this fall at Thomas More College.
In high school, she earned “The Pacer” Scholarship, the Kiwanis Scholarship, the Dr. Jackson Memorial Scholarship, the Lena Bish Award; and the Thomas More College Freshman Leadership Scholarship. She was President of her class for all four years of high school; was a two-year co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad; and was the 2011 Prom Queen.
At Thomas More she plans on earning a bachelor of science degree in nursing and would like to continue working in the Northern Kentucky area.
– LINDSAY MICHELLE SCOTT: Lindsay will be a freshman at Ivy Tech Community College this fall, and is the daughter of Glenn Scott and Kristal Scott. She is being sponsored in the pageant by Chandler Lawncare.
In high school she earned the National Guard Academic and Athletic Award; the Kenneth Booker Scholarship; the Nick Hart Scholarship; the Chad Valentine Scholarship; and the Fire Chiefs Scholarship. She serves on the board of directors of the United Fund of Switzerland County.
Lindsay is currently a sales associate at MainSource Bank; and will pursue a degree in nursing.
– HAYLEY ANN SOUTH: Hayley is the daughter of Carol Smith and Jim South, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored this year by Los Bandidos Restaurant.
She is active in sports in high school, having earned All Conference honors in basketball, softball, and volleyball; and was named to the Rivertown Classic All Tournament team. She was second runner up in the Edelweiss Teen Princess Pageant; and is a member of Switzerland Baptist Church.
Following graduation Hayley plans on attending Ball State University to major in anesthesiology and play softball.
