Swiss Wine Festival kicks off this Sunday with Prince and Princess Scholarship program

The events of the 2006 Swiss Wine Festival officially get underway this Sunday evening, August 13th, when the Edelweiss Prince and Princess Scholarship Program is held.

This year’s royalty will reign over the 2006 festival, which will be held August 24th-27th in the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park.

The scholarship program will be held in the Center Stage Showroom at Belterra Casino Resort and Spa, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5, with children age 12 and under admitted free.

The scholarship program provides a $1,000 scholarship to the Princess and Prince; while the first runners up each receive $500; the second runners up receive $250; the third runners up receive $100; and the fourth runners up receive $50.

There are 12 young ladies vying for the title of Swiss Wine Festival Princess. This year’s contestants include:

– ASHLEY MICHELE BRIGHT: Ashley Bright is the daughter of Georganna Chambers of Vevay, and is being sponsored in the princess program by Heritage Hill Farms.

She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and participates in basketball and softball; and is also a member of the National Honor Society. She is the reigning Edelweiss Teen Princess; and will represent her senior classmates as the Queen contestant at the Versailles Pumpkin Show.

Following graduation, she hopes to work with young people in the field of psychology.

– NATALIE ANNE GRAHAM: Natalie Graham is being sponsored in this year’s program by Big Top Tent Rental and Supplies, and is the daughter of Brett and Donna Graham of Vevay.

She is a 2005 graduate of Switzerland County High School, where she earned salutatorian honors among her classmates. She was a member of the National Honor Society; was president of the French Club; and was a member of the varsity softball team. She also was a member of FFA and the Conservation Club.

She will be studying chemistry at Indiana University Southeast this fall, and plans to pursue a career as a pharmacist.

– LAURA NICOLE HOSKINS: Laura Hoskins is the daughter of Angela Hoskins of Quercus Grove and Billy Hoskins of Jacksonville; and is being sponsored in this year’s program by Renegade Motorsports/Chad Pennington.

She is a 2004 graduate of Switzerland County High School; and was the 2005 Miss Switzerland County. She is a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church; was a 10-year 4-H member; and while in high school was active in student council, FCA, yearbook, and varsity soccer.

She plans on completing her degree in business administration at Indiana University East, and will pursue a business career with a large corporation.

– MEGAN MARIE LOHIDE: Megan Lohide is the daughter of Mark and Lee Jaye Lohide of near East Enterprise, and is being sponsored in the program by “The Mustard Lady.”

She is a 2005 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and will be beginning her sophomore year at Ball State University this fall. While in high school she was co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad; and participated in cross country, FFA, and the National Honor Society. She was the 2004 Miss Switzerland County; and the 2002 Edelweiss Teen Princess.

She plans on pursuing a career as a mathematics teacher and would also like to coach cheerleading.

– BRIANNE SARA-GRACE MARTIN: Brianne Martin is the daughter of Rebecca Martin of Vevay, and is being sponsored in the Princess program by Danner’s Hardware.

She is a 2005 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and will be a sophomore this fall at Indiana Wesleyan University. While in high school she participated in cheerleading, student council, was a class officer, and was the Queen of the Versailles Pumpkin Show. She earned the Bosaw Scholarship, the Bakes Scholarship, and the Wahl Scholarship.

Her career plans are to become a secondary English teacher and also to be a part time photographer.

– BRITTANY ELIZABETH MUKADAM: Brittany Mukadam is being sponsored in this year’s program by Jim and Johanna Welch; and is the daughter of Kathleen and Richard Mukadam of near East Enterprise.

She is a 2006 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and will be a freshman this fall at Ivy Tech State College. She is a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Madison, and also participates in the church’s 180-degree teen youth group ministry.

Her career goals are to further her education at Northern Kentucky University, working to obtain a degree in communications and graphic design.

– SYDNEY LEE PIKE: Sydney Pike is being sponsored in this year’s scholarship program by G.G’s Grill. She is the daughter of Billy and Tanya Pike of near Bennington.

She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and she is a member of the newspaper staff, National Honor Society, co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad, and was the 2006 Queen of Hearts. She was the 2004 Edelweiss Teen Princess, was junior class secretary, and is a member of Switzerland County Area Youth.

Her career plans include opening her own business.

– JENNA MARIE SOUTH: Jenna South is the daughter of Mike and Volina South of near Vevay; and is being sponsored this year in the program by Richardson Industries.

She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and in high school she is active in prayer group, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, varsity softball, and is co-captain of the varsity cheerleading squad.

Following high school graduation, she plans on attending technical school and studying to become a nurse.

– BRITTANY NICOLE WADDLE: Brittany Waddle is the daughter of Phillip and Sandy Waddle of near Bennington. She is being sponsored in this year’s program by the Switzerland County Lions Club.

She will be a junior this fall at Indiana University, where she is a member of the dean’s list; the IU ski and snowboard club; College Republicans; and was on the St. Paul’s Dance Marathon team. She is a St. Paul’s confirmation mentor; and was a participant in the Hoosier’s Outrun Cancer event.

She is currently pursuing her BSN at the IU School of Nursing, and plans on attending graduate school to pursue a career as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in pediatric oncology and hematology.

– MATTIE JEAN WADDLE: Mattie Waddle is being sponsored by Creative Images, and is the daughter of Phillip and Sandy Waddle of near Bennington.

She will be a sophomore at Purdue University in West Lafayette this fall, and is a Lilly Community Foundation Scholar. She is on the Purdue Aids Walk committee; the Pharmacy Spring Fling publicity committee; KIDDS committee; and is a member of the Purdue Society of Health System Pharmacist. She is also active on the ski and snowboard club.

She plans on pursuing a career in pharmacy.

– EMILEE RENELL WALDRON: Emilee Waldron is the daughter of Tony Waldron of Versailles and Greg and Dorie Peelman of East Enterprise. She is being sponsored in the program by Tom T’s Electric.

She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is a member of the National Honor Society; the ‘All A’ Honor Roll; is treasurer of the FFA; and participates in cross country, track, softball, and is a varsity cheerleader. She is also a member of 4-H, and was third runner up Miss Switzerland County this year.

She plans on pursuing a career as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.

– LAUREN MARIE WILLIAMS: Lauren Williams is being sponsored in this year’s scholarship program by the Kiwanis Club of Vevay. She is the daughter of Kathy Williams of Vevay.

She is a 2005 graduate of Switzerland County High School, where she was the class salutatorian; and will be a sophomore this fall at the University of Evansville. At the University of Evansville she is a member of the biology club; is treasurer of Circle K; and is the current events chair of the Student Activities Board.

Following her college career, she plans on pursuing a career as a medical researcher.

There are six young men vying for the title of Swiss Wine Festival Prince.

Contestants include:

– MATHEW DAVID DEATON: Mat Deaton is the son of Sheri Deaton of near Vevay and Todd Deaton of Vevay. He is being sponsored in the program by the Warsaw Dairy Queen.

He is a 2006 graduate of Switzerland County High School, and will be a freshman this fall at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology. In high school he was a member of the National Honor Society; was a member for the Sectional Champion varsity basketball team; and was named to the All Sectional team. He earned the 2006 Sam Walton Community Scholarship; and also received the Wahl Scholarship; the Bosaw Scholarship; the American Legion Scholarship; and the Sons of the American Legion Scholarship.

He plans on pursuing a career in civil engineering.

– JACOB TYLER HASKELL: Jake Haskell is being sponsored in the Prince program by the Switzerland County Lions Club; and is the son of Darlene Haskell of near Center Square and John Haskell of near Florence.

He will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and in high school he is a member of the Switzerland County FFA program; and the Business Professionals of America. He is also active in the Switzerland County 4-H program. He also participates in soccer and golf.

Following graduation he plans on pursuing a career in golf course management and landscape and horticulture; or possibly law enforcement.

– LOREN GREGORY LAMSON, JR.: Loren Lamson is the son of Loren and Marlene Lamson of Vevay; and is being sponsored in this year’s program by G.G’s Grill.

He is a 2005 graduate of Switzerland County High School; and is currently attending Western Kentucky University. While in high school he served as the Pacer mascot for two years; was a 10-year member of the Switzerland County 4-H program; and is a member of Riverview Baptist Church.

He is currently pursuing a major in physical education.

– TREVOR JOHN SEFTON: T.J. Sefton is being sponsored in this year’s prince program by Vevay Newspapers. He is the son of Mark and Debi Sefton of near Moorefield.

He will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, where he participates in varsity basketball, varsity baseball; the school newspaper; FCA; and pep club. He is a member of the Switzerland County 4-H program; and Switzerland County Area Youth.

He plans to continue his education following high school to pursue a career in sports management.

– JUSTIN MICHAEL WAGNER: Justin Wagner is the son of Danny and Cindi Wagner of Vevay. He is being sponsored this year by Total Tan.

He will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School; and currently serves as the vice president of the Business Professionals of America. He is a member of the Junior Historical Society and the French Club. He is a first degree black belt in Shaolin-Do karate.

Following graduation he plans on earning a bachelor’s degree in computer science and pursue a career as a computer programmer.

– TRAVIS MICHAEL WEBSTER: Travis Webster is being sponsored in this year’s scholarship program by Webster Concrete. He is the son of Barry and Jo Webster of Popcorn Ridge.

He will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School; and is a member of the varsity basketball, cross country, and baseball teams. He is a two-year member of the Madison Post #9 American Legion baseball team; and was the MVP of the Sectional basketball tournament, earning All Sectional honors. He is a member of the FFA and 4-H programs.

Following graduation he plans on attending college and studying business, and would also like to play college baseball.
