Swiss Friends of Animals suspends county activities

The Swiss Friends of Animals organization here in Switzerland County has voted to suspend its activities and dissolve its corporation.

The vote by the board of directors came at the group’s August 14th meeting; and ended an eight-year run that saw the organization lead the way in terms of the protection of animals in the county and also the development of a very successful spay and neuter program to help control the pet population.

One of the biggest accomplishments of the organization was to help facilitate through the county commissioners and county council the construction of and operation of the Switzerland County Animal Shelter.

The animal shelter is located just off McCreary’s Ridge Road near East Enterprise, and has been very successful in the time that it has been open.

The Swiss Friends of Animals’ spay and neuter program was designed to help control the pet population in the county, with a focus on unwanted dogs.

During its time, more than 2,000 dogs and cats went through the spay and neuter program here.
