The 2007 Swiss Wine Festival kicks off this Sunday night with the Princess and Prince of this year’s festival are crowned. The program will be held in the Center Stage Showroom at Belterra Casino Resort and Spa, and will begin at 6:30 p.m. There is a $5 admission fee.
This year there are 12 young ladies who are hoping to be crowned as the 2007 Princess:
– SARA GINEL BOVARD: Sara Bovard is the daughter of Marcie and Tim Hensley of East Enterprise and Larry and Paula Bovard of Florence. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored by Friendship State Bank.
She is the captain of the varsity cheerleading squad; is treasurer of the National Honor Society; and is involved in FFA.
Following graduation she plans on attending the University of Southern Indiana to study imaging sciences.
- OLIVIA TEAL-LACEY CASTOR: Olivia Castor is sponsored by Mary Kay Cosmetics, Patty Chase; and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is the daughter of Karren and David Castor of near Vevay.
She is a member of the National Honor Society; has been a student council officer for three years; and is a member of the Business Professionals of America.
Following graduation she plans on attending Hanover College and major in education.
- ASIA BREANNE COVINGTON: Asia Covington will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is the daughter of Mark Covington and Christy Swanson. She is being sponsored by Don Covington and Sons Towing.
She is a member of the Pep Club; FFA; the 2007 Prom Committee; and was a varsity cheerleader last year. She is involved in the 4-H program, where she has earned Grand Champion awards.
Once she has graduated she plans on studying nursing at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati.
- EMILY CHRISTINE LANMAN: Emily Lanman is being sponsored by State Farm Insurance. She is the daughter of Patrick and Jacquita Lanman of Vevay, and will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School.
She is a varsity cheerleader and a member of the golf team; and is also the manager for the track team. She is involved in FFA; and was first runner up in the 2005 and 2006 Edelweiss Teen pageants.
After graduation she plans on a career as an event and wedding coordinator.
– MEGAN MARIE LOHIDE: Megan Lohide is being sponsored by Texas Gas Transmission Corporation. She is the daughter of Mark and Lee Jaye Lohide of near East Enterprise, and will be a junior this fall at Indiana University Southeast.
She was the 2002 Edelweiss Teen Princess; 2004 Miss Switzerland County; and was the first runner up in the 2006 Edelweiss Princess program. She was a varsity cheerleader in high school.
Her career ambition is to become a secondary school math teacher.
– GLENDA OLIVIA MEFFORD: Glenda Mefford is the daughter of Linda Birge of Green Valley Road and the late Johnny Mefford. She is being sponsored by Axis Barber and Style.
She was involved in the 4-H program; and also has participated in softball, cheerleading, and basketball.
Her career ambition is to attend Ivy Tech Community College to study to become a registered nurse.
– DRUSILLA ANNE MORGAN: Dru Morgan is the daughter of Angela Browning of Vevay and Michael Ferrell. She is being sponsored by The Julia Knox House, and will be a freshman this fall at Ball State University.
She is a member of the Indiana National Guard in the military police corps; and during high school she was a varsity cheerleader, was captain of the varsity soccer team; and was president of the Key Club.
After college, her career ambition is to become a criminal psychologist for the criminal justice system.
- MORGAN DANIELLE ROSS: Morgan Ross is the daughter of Fred and Rita Ross of near Center Square, and will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School. She is being sponsored by Danner’s Hardware.
She is a member of the National Honor Society, Key Club, and prayer group; and the varsity basketball team. She is involved in the 4-H program, Pep Club, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Her career ambition is to attend college and study elementary education.
– JENNA MARIE SOUTH: Jenna South is being sponsored by the Schenck Mansion, and is the daughter of Mike and Volina South of near Vevay. She will be a freshman this fall at Ivy Tech Community College.
She was a four year member of the cheerleading squad while in high school; and was also involved in FFA, the Pep Club; and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.
Her career goal is to earn a degree in nursing at Ivy Tech, and also plans on taking EMT classes.
– ASHLEY BROOKE THORNTON: Ashley Thornton will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School; and is the daughter of Renee Dixon and Greg Thornton. She is being sponsored by Twisted Ends.
She has earned inclusion in “Who’s Who Among American High School Students”; and is a member of the National Honor Society. She currently serves as the parliamentarian of the Business Professionals of America.
Following graduation, she plans on attending Vincennes University and study to be a mortician.
- KIMBERLY DAWN VANN: Kim Vann is being sponsored by Skeeter’s Gun Works, and is the daughter of Sharon Vann of Vevay and Roger Vann of Florence. She will be a junior this fall at Switzerland County High School.
She is active in the 4-H program; and is also a member of the choir, where she has served as co-president. She is also a member of the American Legion Junior Auxiliary.
Following graduation she plans on obtaining her business degree from Ivy Tech Community College; with plans to one day own her own business.
- EMILEE RENELL WALDRON: Emilee Waldron is the daughter of Dorie and Greg Peelman of near East Enterprise and Tony Waldron. She will be a senior this fall at Switzerland County High School, and is being sponsored by Tom T’s Electric.
She is a member of the National Honor Society; was second runner up in the 2006 Edelweiss Princess program; and was first runner up in the 2007 Queen of Hearts pageant. She was the first runner up in the 2007 Miss Switzerland County pageant; is a varsity cheerleader; and is the treasurer of the FFA.
Her career plans are to be a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
