Superintendent may be leaving

Switzerland County School superintendent Tracy Caddell has confirmed that he is currently in negotiations with another school corporation about its vacant superintendent’s position.

“I think it’s fair to say that I am in negotiations with another school corporation, but I haven’t signed any contract,” Tracy Caddell said Wednesday morning. “I’ll know more in the next week to 10 days whether or not the negotiations are fruitful.”

Superintendent Caddell said that if he does leave Switzerland County, it will be a very difficult decision for him, because he is a native of the community and a graduate of Switzerland County High School. His father lives in the county.

“It will be very hard for me to leave if I do,” he said. “I love this county and this school corporation.”

Embattled since it was discovered in May that corporation treasurer Ann Geyman embezzled more than $1 million, the school board in September chose not to approve the roll over provision in Tracy Caddell’s contract.

“I don’t want next year’s school board election to be about firing the superintendent or not,” Tracy Caddell said. “I want it to be about our students and the educational progress we are making for them.”
