‘Storyfest’, the annual celebration of the art of story telling for students here in Switzerland County, will celebrate its 25th anniversary when the two day event is held next Thursday and Friday, September 13th-14th.
In celebration of the anniversary, Martha Bladen and other coordinators of ‘Storyfest’ are bringing back some of the favorite entertainers from past years. Switzerland County students in grades 1-3 will attend on Thursday, September 13th; while students in grades 4-6 will attend on Friday, September 14th.
In the usual ‘Storyfest’ format, students will move between three different venues, allowing for more upclose experiences with the performers. Students will also eat lunch at the Paul Ogle Riverfront Park.
This year’s performers include:
— Story teller Stephanie Holman will be sharing with students at the Switzerland County Historical Museum.
Stephanie has had the joy of telling to children, families, teens and adults. She works full time as a Children’s Librarian and this experience helps her to really know the stages of development, expectations for stories and to tailor her story choices to your event. While she can tell to the very young and adults, her favorite audience is middle and high school.
— At the Switzerland County TEC Center, “Anything is Possible!” with Geoff Akins will again be a crowd favorite.
Throughout the show there is a running gag where Geoff attempts to achieve his dream of creating a Square Bubble. He intentionally fails each time but doesn’t give up (modeling persistence) and by the end of the show he figures out a way to successfully make a square bubble… a “Bubble Cube!”
— Finally, the Historic Hoosier Theater will again play host to the popular Madcap Puppets, which will be presenting “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz”.
Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, Madcap Puppets are nationally recognized for engaging and original children’s theatre productions, as well as in-school educational programs that include performances, workshops and residencies. Children’s learning experiences are enriched with performances based on world literature and cultures, thanks to our partnerships with schools and libraries across the country.
