“Honor the Red, White, and Blue” is a special exhibit of historic flags now on display at the newly renovated Switzerland County Historical Museum.

Among the rare flags in the exhibit is an early 13-star flag once owned by Joseph Patterson, who was a prisoner at Andersonville during the Civil War.

Also included in the display is a hand-painted flag banner by James H. Merit done in 1858 for the Palmetto Church Sunday School of Mexico Bottom; a silk United States flag given as a gift from Japan; and a Memorial Flag of stars representing soldiers from Switzerland County that served in World War I.

This amazing collection will be on display throughout the month of July. The Museum is located at 210 East Market, and is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $3. For further information call 427-3560.
