Softball team opens with two losses

The Switzerland County Lady Pacer varsity softball team got its season underway on Saturday with a doubleheader at Henryville.

In the opening game, Switzerland County battled hard, but fell by a final score of 2-0.

Hope Tankersley was 1-for-3 in the game; Taylar Jordan was also 1-for-3; and McKenna Edwards was 1-for-3.

On the mound, Kelsi Konkle went seven innings, striking out three and allowing just five hits and one walk. Only one of Henryville’s two runs was earned.

In the back half of the doubleheader, the Lady Pacers didn’t fare as well, losing by a score of 20-0 in five innings.

Offensively, Konkle was 1-for-1; and Kayla Jordan also reached base via being hit by a pitch.

Kassedy Murray suffered the loss on the mound, going two inning and allowing eight hits and 12 runs – but only two of those runs were earned, as the Switzerland County defense suffered. Alyssa Parr and Ariel Oeffinger also pitched in the contest, with Parr going two innings and allowing five hits and two earned runs; and Oeffinger going one inning and allowing four hits and six runs.
