Soccer team splits pair of conference games

The Switzerland County Pacer boys varsity soccer team lost a hard fought game to Southwestern last Wednesday.

The Pacers were down 1-0 most of the game when Kris Hetrick was fouled in the box, setting up a penalty kick. He then hit the shot to tie the game – which ended regulation in a 1-1 tie. The Rebels pulled out the victory in an old fashioned shootout, winning 2-1.

The jayvee team fought hard and ended in a 1-1 tie with the Rebels. Trenton Ricketts scored the lone goal for the Pacers.

On Thursday, August 31st, results were much more pleasing, as the varsity and reserve squads both won against the Milan Indians.

The varsity team was led by Justin Barnes, who scored three of the four goals for the Pacers. Ian Sisson added one goal to help the team shutout Milan by a score of 4-0.

Austin Reed and Ian Sisson each assisted with goals.

Coach Tony Spoores named athletes Justin Barnes as a player of the game for his offensive burst; and goalie Aaron Moore, who recorded his second shutout of the season.

The jayvee team also gained a win with a 1-0 shutout over the Milan Indians. Justin Wagner scored the goal late in the game for the Pacers and Jordan Hewitt preserved the victory as the Pacers goalie.
